I was visiting from Pittsburgh and had a mishap in Garden of the Gods Park. Since I’m on blood thinner, I was bleeding profusely.

From the moment I entered the emergency room, I felt as if I was in good hands. Everyone was friendly and professional. The security people, admissions, and the ER staff made me feel like I was in capable hands.

In particular, I want to thank Nicky, the nurse who cleaned my wound and administered the sutures. She took the time to explain each step she was taking. I can’t say enough about the care I received at Penrose. Thank you all.

I would give zero stars if I could. I had a referral to see vascular surgery for some varicose veins. I went in and had my ultrasound and a consult with the provider. These were two separate appointments so I had to pay for each appointment. I had my injections scheduled for November and my follow up scheduled for December. I recently got a phone call that the clinic was closing and that there was nothing to be done, Including being sent to another provider to continue care. I was upset because not only was my procedure and follow-up canceled, but I had already paid for the diagnostics and the consult with the provider, it would no longer be getting the final service. I asked about this, and was told to call the billing department. I called the billing department and explained what was going on, as I would now have to start all over with a new referral, Including new diagnostics and a consult that I would have to pay for a second time. I was told that they could refund me my money, but essentially my bill would go to collections. While I understand that I did pay for the services that were provided, I am very upset that I now have to start the process over again. I spoke with another vascular clinic today, and they will not accept the ultrasounds done and I will have to get new ultrasounds and a new consult, which I will have to pay for again. I went into my patient portal to try to follow up on this, and there was not even an option to find another vascular provider. I was unable to send a message to any other providers within the portal. I will not be returning to this organization for any care.

If I could give zero stars I would. Absolute worst nursing care I have ever received. Sat in the ER for 7 hours writhing in pain and when I asked for pain medication they responded with “we are waiting for the physician to sign off on it” which never happend. I was then transferred to the floor for admission and still was not given anything for pain. I saw a nurse TWICE in almost 24 hours.
On day 2 they collected samples of things and hours later said they needed to collect again. I asked why? The response was “i guess they need to rest the sample” like, what ? I’ve been here for 3 days and each day it just gets worse and worse. I will NEVER return to this dump again.

I had lower back surgery, and was placed on floor 8 right after for post care. I had a day time nurse EMILY, cute little strawberry blonde RN. With tons of energy, smart, compassionate, made my stay just the best! Thank you common spirit for hiring such an amazing person. I almost cried when I told her Good By, she sure felt like family.

I was early for my appointment and I was taken back to a very nice room. My echocardiogram technician was a student nurse. She made me feel very comfortable and we had a lovely conversation as she did her "thing" she is just a joy to be around and very good at what she does. Everyone was just awesome!!!

My mother is there right now and we are trying to get her transferred to a different hospital. That’s how bad this place is. The nurses during the day are really professional but the nurses on staff at night are incompetent, rude, and border on cruel. They clearly don’t care if a patient is in pain and I’m pretty sure they work at night because they don’t want anyone to see how they treat patients. I understand they have a hard job but the night nurses are obviously burned out. I honestly believe a few of them actually enjoy denying care and seeing people suffer. If you or a loved one needs care, please take this review seriously. It gives me no pleasure to post this but it needs to be done. Hopefully, someone at Penrose will see this and treat it with the gravity it deserves.
If you already have a loved one at Penrose, I implore you to do everything you can to make sure they are being treated with dignity and respect. If their nurse is a woman named “Shay”, take action immediately. She is incompetent, rude, lazy, and worst of all, incapable of empathy.

Awful experience. I dislocated my shoulder and I had to go in to the ER at 3am. When I got there the receptionist was rude and asked me to do things that would have caused severe pain. Even the security guard told her I physically couldn’t do them. Things like entering in my SS when I could have just told her or getting my ID out. I know I need to do those things but help maybe? All the nurses save for the very first one when I first got there were rude and incompetent. It took them almost TWO HOURS to get me pain medication. Are you crazy? The girl who took my X-rays was a complete c- don’t even want to type the word. Now after reading the other reviews I know I’m not being dramatic. If you cannot be kind to people in healthcare. DONT BE IN HEALTHCARE! I went in on the 27th so whoever was on staff at that time shouldn’t be nurses. Y’all are callous and pathetic. The doctor was nice. At least there was that.
