Dr. Smolen is a hero! I had what could have been an emergency with my dog on a Saturday evening while all vets were closed. My closest option was a 2.5 hour drive away. Dr. Smolen walked me through some diagnosis over text and made himself available. I couldn’t not have had a better experience!

Every experience we've had with the Animal Hospital of Telluride has been wonderful, but over Christmas, they went even more above and beyond, Dr. Smolen calling us back at nightfall on Christmas Eve when we were worried about our dog. He was so patient and thoughtful and kind and had excellent advice. The next thing we knew he'd pulled off a Christmas miracle and medication and appropriate food for GI issues were waiting for us outside the door of the clinic for us to collect. Exceptional. So, so very grateful to him and the whole crew.

Words can't fully express my gratitude for Dr. Smolen and his team. Dr. Smolen is extremely knowledgeable, thoughtful, caring, friendly and attentive. It's been a year since my last visit with Dr. Smolen as i've moved out of state and one of the hardest parts about moving was no longer getting to keep him as my vet!

I witnessed him go above and beyond to provide the best medical care for my dog when we walked in on a busy day with a life threatening emergency. Prior to that day I wasn't an existing client and even during such an unstable situation I believed that my dog was in the best care he could be in. Dr. Smolen clearly explained updates to me each step of the way and guided me through the options. When it came time to bring my dog home after a few days, he followed up with us periodically during recovery and answered any questions when I had concerns. Dr. Smolen, his techs and office staff genuinely care and it shows.

I rarely write reviews but this one was long overdue. Thank you Animal Hospital of Telluride for your outstanding care and dedication. 🙂

On an early morning hike while visiting Telluride last week our 4-legged son, Pono, met his first porcupine and promptly tried to eat it. The porcupine was just fine (fortunately), but our boy got totally jacked up with many painful quills piercing through his face, tongue, gums, lips, and the roof of his mouth. The local vet was closed that day so we drove the 12 minutes to Illium and met Dr. Smolen. Despite not yet being open (and still being in his pajamas), he let us in, inspected our boy's face and got Pono situated with a cone and sedative... then went to shower and change while we awaited the arrival of his staff. Even though we didn't have an appointment, Dr. Smolen and his team treated Pono very quickly and we were on our way by 10:30am. Before leaving, Dr. Smolen told us that more quills might appear in the coming days as they worked their way through Pono's flesh, so he gave us his cell phone number in case we needed him over the weekend. Indeed, more quills presented themselves and Dr. Smolen made himself available to help us out when we brought Pono back in two additional times. We feel SO FORTUNATE and GRATEFUL to have met Dr. Smolen -- his competency and compassion are exceptional and was of great solace to us. Of course no one wants a pet emergency, but if one occurs it's Dr. Smolen who we'd want caring for our beloved little ones!!

Dr. Somel (sp?) and his staff were the nicest, most caring and informative vet staff we've had in awhile. I only wished I lived in town so we could make AH of telluride our regular vet. Look no further. This is the best vet in town. They were fair, took there time to explain and very hospitable. Our dogs really loved the staff too, which is nice since it's usually a stressful experience. Highly recommend.

My experience with the Animal Hospital of Telluride was absolutely incredible! My dog Kona swallowed a fish hook and the staff here went above and beyond to ensure his safety and well-being. From the moment we walked through the doors, we were met with genuine concern, compassion, and professionalism. The doctor was highly skilled and quickly removed the hook, which could have been a life-threatening situation if not handled properly. The entire staff was incredibly sweet, constantly checking in on Kona and comforting him throughout the entire process. I'm incredibly grateful to everyone at the Animal Hospital of Telluride for their swift actions and exceptional care. I highly recommend them to anyone in need of veterinary care in the area!
