Unfortunately my family did not have a good experience with the VCA Animal Hospital of Vernon.

My family’s dog was experiencing some discomfort in her eye. Her eye was fully closed so we decided to bring her to VCA in Vernon since our regular vet did not have any availability. We were told by VCA that she simply has dry eyes and was prescribed an ointment. We were a bit concerned as we were expecting an antibiotic but the doctor advised that this is not an infection so an antibiotic is not needed. We were charged $400 for this visit.

As the week went on we did not see any progression in our dog’s eye. It did not seem to be healing at all, in fact it kept getting worse. My family contacted VCA on multiple occasions simply to be told that they did not need to see her, it’s simply a dry eye condition. We expressed our concern to VCA that we do not think this is because of dry eyes but instead it looks like an infection. We even have text messages that we sent to VCA informing them of her condition with no response.

It got to the point where our dog started losing vision and was bumping into things. Her energy level was going down, and she was unable to walk properly. We were extremely concerned but VCA did not express any interest in seeing her again despite our efforts to contact them on numerous occasions.

A week later we managed to get an appointment with our regular vet. Shortly after arriving, the vet discovered an ulcer on our dog’s eye and confirmed that this was most definitely not just a dry eye case which explains the loss of vision. She was prescribed antibiotics immediately.

Overall this was a very negative experience with VCA. All we wanted was for our dog to be seen again however VCA did not have any interest in caring for her. Our dog was extremely ill and this could have been prevented had VCA listened to our concerns. I would not recommend this facility.

Had a great experience today when I needed help with my dog’s anal glands! I just moved to the area and plan to make this my go to vet! Staff are super friendly and made my dog feel comfortable. He’s usually a little nervous at the vet but didn’t seem mind this place too much!

Alexa is a cat whisperer.
My new 20 month neutered Michu took to her instantly and I was skeptical.
I had a “first time client,” coupon I found without trying. I was looking up VCA. I was just needing flea and tick medication because he was vetted at the Newington Humane Society 2 months prior. Chipped, neutered, ears cleaned, updated shots ready.
By law, rabies shots have to be given.
Anyway, the coupon wasn’t accepted well…I thought it was a nice way to see if you “vibe,” with them.
They listened to his grade 1 murmur and looked in his ears. That was a coupon check up.‘
The medication for 6 months was very fair.
Me bringing in a stool sample was weird and it wasn’t necessary.
I wonder if they clip his toe nails?

Alexa and the vet were fabulous.

BEST VET IN CT!! So sweet and loving to my big sick cat, she went home purring. brought rescue street kittens here and they went from crusty and short of breath to sweet healthy happy babies in a week! Very experienced and knowledgeable staff from the door to the doctor. I wouldn’t go anywhere else again.

Wow I am so happy I called here!! My poor pup had an issue and I couldn’t get him in to the first two places I called. VCA took us in a half hour later and the whole staff was super nice and helpful, even though my dog was scared and growling at everyone. We are definitely gonna make this our new vet!

What can you say about a place you have been going to for over 30 years. From as far back as I remember, this is the only place our dogs have gone for regular checkups and such. From Max, Quincey, Rufus, Angus, Riley and now Maggie. Both the dogs, my mother, myself and now my kids have always felt very comfortable here. The veterinarians may have come , gone and retired, but the care has always been excellent.

Amazing experience! We were shocked at how cool and collected my cat was and I have to give props to the staff for that. The male vet tech was especially sweet and helped keep him calm. You can tell there is a genuine love for animals here, we will be back!
