I know that every animal shelter in SC is understaffed and underfunded because i foster for rescues that are overwhelmed with our outdated shelters.. i give this place so much credit for keeping an adoptable pitbull for 3 and a half years. This speaks volumes for this shelter and their volunteers! God bless y'all, one sucess story doesnt eliminate the crisis that SC shelters are facing.. lets establish a statewide dog registration law that every dog owner needs to pay $20/yr and those proceeds will go directly to the shelters if the shelter provides some spay/neuter assistance, and make dog "breeders" pay a $10k fee every year. I have a foster that was hours from death and i hate that people are allowed to mistreat dogs

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Florence County Animal Shelter, and I am thoroughly impressed with the exceptional care and dedication they provide to their animals. The staff is incredibly compassionate, knowledgeable, and committed to ensuring that each animal finds a loving home. We called and had to set up an appointment twice because we were not able to keep the first one. They helped us find where they were because we got a little lost. Then when we arrived they were extremely kind and helpful getting our sacred stray kitten calm. When we came back to get her I bought my daughter with me and she was so excited and all I witnessed was people happily picking up their stray animals and very helpful and kind smiling faces handing the animals to everyone. My daughter was very happy and so was I. Thank you all so much for your kindness and the time I personally witnessed you take with everyone. God Bless.

I have called twice about two abandon dogs in Lake City at the Bojangles. Nothing done to rescue these dogs. Beautiful Blk Labs,male and female.

I've never personally gone here! Although I have called for environmental assistance a few times and I got an urgent response from them afterwards. After requesting help, an environmental worker came to my residence and set up several traps to catch unwanted cats and possums from my yard!! Once the traps were set and in place, they left. It was a waiting process after that. After a few days passed, they returned to my residence to check the traps they had set. If any success, they retrieved the traps and took whatever caught back with them! I recommend Florence County Environmental Services to anyone needing assistance removing unwanted or uninvited critters from your yard!! Friendly employees also! Highly recommended! They also offer assistance with other types of Environmental issues!! I'll definitely use them again if needed!

I have had 3 experiences with these people. The first, a 3 month old fawn had been hit by a car. Still alive. I sat with it as it cried, and me too. When they got there, they picked the baby up by his feet and tossed him extremely hard into their truck. Showed no respect. The second, a dog at our neighborhood grocery in effingham had been hit. It was raining, very cold. It took them 2.5 hours to get there. The dog was alive and kept trying to get up and couldn't. Also his skin was peeled back from his neck to his hips. Today, I called to ask them if they had seen my 3 legged gray tabby missing since sun. PM. They laughed throughout the conversation
Guess they thought it was a joke. You dont have to be very intelligent to get this job, but please act like you care!!
