Unfortunately, my hound has been here at least twice this year but he was well-cared for each time. You never know what the wait will be like but this last time they saved his life as he got into gum, eating 80+ pieces, Xylital (in gum, toothpaste and lots of sugar free things) is super toxic, can be fatal (liver) and absorbs quickly. He is now doing better though it required hospitalization and was $$$. We were very happy with the vets, Drs': Chavis, Peters and Bender. Also, both vet techs were amazing--super great. Receptionist who greeted us was also really nice.

Generally if you're bringing your pet here something has gone wrong. I've had to bring multiple dogs in for various emergencies over the years and the staff has always been great and done everything they could to help our pets. I recently had to bring a dog in to discover that he was dying and would be in hospice care from here on out. It sucked, but Dr Kylene and Dr Bridgid were so supportive. He passed peacefully at home a few days later, comfortably because of the hospice care they set us up with.

St Francis came through again for me on Christmas Eve. My kitty wasn't eating and she was getting extremely thin. She had a vet appointment the day after Christmas but due to her declining weight I rushed her to St Francis. Dr Katie Belz who saved Larry's life when she was 5 months old with an emergency blood transfusion at 4 am - came through again and properly diagnosed her with dental disease, prescribed meds, and got her eating again until I could get her tooth taken care of. They were also slammed Christmas Eve - their communication and thoughtfulness was top notch. I will never take either of my 2 cats anywhere else for an emergency except St Francis. I am so grateful for the care they have continually provided for Larry. P.s - wanted to leave another 5 star today but Google won't let me. They came through again with meds I could not locate anywhere else so my cat would not be in pain over New Years. St Franicis is the best.

I've had to go to St. Francis twice this year, and both times have been the best experiences they could have been, considering the circumstances.

The first visit was with our senior cat that we knew needed to cross the rainbow bridge. It was the middle of the night, and we'd hoped she'd make it through the night so we could say goodbye at our regular vet's office. When it became clear that making her wait would be cruel, we took her to St. Francis, where they treated her and us with dignity, gentleness, and kindness. We were very grateful to them.

The second visit was two nights ago with a sick kitty. While the wait seemed a little longer than I'd have liked given we were the only ones in the waiting area, the care was excellent. They listened, took me seriously, and treated our sick kitty with the same care as the one we'd said goodbye to earlier in the year.

Both times, we saw Dr. Belz, and I could not say enough nice things about her. I'm very grateful to her for her expertise and kindness.

My only criticism is that the front desk staff are a little transactional for what a late night visit to an emergency vet can mean to the humans who have to bring their babies in. I would have preferred a little better "bedside manner" in my emotional state... But that's a preference, and not something that would deter me from going back there if I needed to.

I write all this from the perspective of someone who has a little peek behind the curtain of emergency vet medicine. My best friend is a critical care nurse at another hospital and she's shared with me the immense obstacles that emergency vet facilities face where bureaucracy, emotional pet owners, irresponsible pet owners, and more are concerned. Given all the difficulties these places can face, the treatment both my kitties received at St. Francis is something for which I am very grateful.

It's been an exhausting and expensive week trying to figure out what was wrong with my 6-year-old cat, and if she was going to make it. From the moment I walked into the ER, Dr. Peters and the staff went right to work to save her life. She was hospitalized for 4 nights. The second day her care was turned over to the internal specialist team of Dr. Gibson and Philip. They were upfront and transparent and explained everything to me in a way that I could understand. We all knew this would be an expensive proposition and they did what they could in their power to keep costs in check. They spoke with me every day, sometimes twice a day. My cat will be on insulin injections for the rest of her life but they made sure I was trained in how to administer her meds before I brought her back home. I can't say enough good things about the team.

We took our beautiful 13.5-year-old Australian Shepard to St. Francis as an emergency. Freaked out about his condition, I called ahead. The staff met us at the front door with a gurney as the team called for doctors to come. They wheeled Stash back and moved us to a room to wait. The diagnosis was totally unexpected: cancer in the lungs and brain. We were afraid we would not see Stash again. They called us the next morning to come to pick him up. After spending the night at St. Francis', the medical team made Stash more comfortable with steroids and other drugs. We were thankful we could take him home and have some extra time with him before the inevitable happened.

Checking out, the St. Francis team gave us a list of organizations which would provide pet euthanasia.

We had almost three weeks to focus on Stash and be with him. Our family came to say goodbye to him. All but one of our grandchildren were able to come say goodbye.

When Stash's breathing got especially bad, we went again to St. Francis asking for meds to take away the pain. They did the best they could, and we appreciated it. The next night we realized he was in too much distress.

Thankfully, as part of this painful experience we had pet insurance. We never expected Emergency Care, any medical care, to be inexpensive. Our pet insurance covered 90% of Stash's medical expenses and the euthanasia. At a time of such great stress and loss, it helped that we didn't need to worry about the financial aspects of this experience.

Yes, my husband and I do highly recommend St. Francis Veterinary Specialists and Emergency who did their very best to ensure Stash was as comfortable as possible until the very end. They supportively stayed in touch with us throughout this process.
