I took my senior cat to Dr. Gail and her staff after 3 visits in 2 weeks to her regular vet couldn’t figure out what was causing her to have a corneal ulcer and why it wasn’t healing.

Dr. Gail’s staff were very quick in processing my referral from our vet and contacting me to schedule our appointment. I was able to get in the same week. Arrival was easy, plenty of parking and the gentleman working as her veterinary technician was friendly and brought the paperwork to my car. After I filled it out, I went in with my cat. The vet tech gave me a cloth with calming pheromones on it to help my cat feel comfortable. After a few minutes, I brought her to Dr. Gail’s exam room and Dr. Gail took it from there! I sat in the waiting room while my cat was cared for. It didn’t take very long for Dr. Gail to come out and provide a detailed diagnosis (complete with a hand drawn eye diagram!) and a plan of care with clear instructions.

While the specific medications for my cat’s eye problem are expensive, Dr. Gail’s clinic actually charged less for the same medication than my regular vet, and the testing I was charged for at Dr. Gail’s office was less than half of what my regular vet charged for the same test.

From the moment I walked in it was clear Dr. Gail and her staff are passionate about helping animals and I am so happy to report that thanks to their help my cat is on the mend!

We have visited Dr.Powell-Johnson twice now for my dog who has bad chronic dry eyes. She is extremely knowledgeable. The visits are not cheap, but if you need an eye vet specialist, they are excellent. They run promptly on time.

Dr Gail Powell is a true gem and has helped our Teddy with her experience and knowledge about medicine, expectations, and thorough regime. She is helping us learn to navigate through the eye issues Teddy has and make him as comfortable as possible. His quality of life has improved by us following the protocol and suggestions she has made.

First, I’d like to say how wonderful the office staff was to me and my senior golden retriever. I received excellent instructions about the office, parking, etc. They are very transparent about the pricing, and I was actually surprised how reasonable the final bill was including the various medications.

Second, Dr. Powell is awesome! She is so relaxed and doesn’t rush. She really wanted to hear about my dog, and this helped us feel more at ease. Dr. Powell knows her stuff when it comes to veterinary eye care and helped me to understand what the issue was for my dog. Dr. Powell is also very knowledgeable about a holistic approach to daily care and made a few recommendations which I immediately began that day.

I feel very fortunate to have my dog cared for by Dr. Powell and the office team. My dog’s eye is so much better, and I feel so appreciative that he’s doing well.

Please avoid this place if you care about your animal. When I first walked in I was told where I could sit and then waited for the doctor. The doctor came out and sat across from me in the lobby and asked about prior medical history and then took my cat back and I wasn’t allowed to be with him. Within 1 minute she came back with a told me my cat was too aggressive to complete the exam. Please keep in mind I’ve never have had a vet EVER tell me that he’s aggressive during a visit it’s always been he’s the nicest. She said she was able to see the eyeball and its components and it was fine, all in under 1 minute? But she would need to see him again but under mild sedation. When my cat was brought back to me he was calm as could be and just laid in his carrier. Then she pulled out a bunch of books of eyes to try and make herself feel justified charging me the $160 for the 1 minute exam. If you don’t feel comfortable treating cats tell the patient prior to pick up sedation medication, not charge them $160 for 2 pills and no conclusions of the problem and say we will have to see you again when your cat is sedated and pay all the exams again. I also find it strange that where I was told I needed to sit I had no view of the exam happening and the fact that I wasn’t allowed back with my pet seemed odd. Avoid this place at all cost. I left and made an appointment with BluePearl veterinarian clinic a reputable ophthalmology clinic for animals.

The Dr. is super knowledgeable and breaks down everything for you, even tells you about breed specific issues. Our first appointment went smoothly, but our second appointment was right after the holidays and they were backed up on our scheduled appointment day. We waited for 30+ minutes in the parking lot, so I started driving around to calm my anxious pup. When they finally called to say that they were ready, they threatened to cancel/reschedule because we weren't immediately available. Lesson learned: avoid making late-day appointments if you can. Also, the front desk person who does most of the phone correspondence is a bit hard to understand. All that said, still grateful to have a specialist like this in the Atlanta area.

I was referred to AVEC by our family vet, who I trust completely! Dr. Powell and her staff were amazing! The communication, from start to finish, was friendly and professional. What I REALLY appreciated was the medication instructions. The medications were each in their own little bag, and numbered, with clear and easy directions.

Dr. Powell is the worst medical practitioner I have ever met. She misdiagnosed my boxer for 2 months. Her only agenda was prescribing medications that cost a fortune, that didn’t work, and most importantly giving us inaccurate medication storage instructions. Only prolonging the agony my poor dog was in. Some of the medications should not have been prescribed for corneal ulcers. Antibiotics she had us administer for 2 months were totally unnecessary. I was only educated to all this after going to get a second opinion with another Ophthalmologist who informed us of all this after taking my boxer there. My poor dogs ulcer had ruptured. When I raised concerns with Dr. Powell and sent in photos. I was told all this was normal. Also be cautious she takes your pet to a back room for her exam and you never really know what goes on back there. Please do not take your pets to this butcher! We are now pursuing legal action as no Pet should have to go through this.
