We have had a phenomenal experience with Rachel and Xander with A Phoenix Rising. Rachel jumped in head first to help our struggling preteen (age 11when we began). When we started, he was struggling tremendously with his gender identity, depression, and feeling quite helpless within a few tricky relationships in his life. She helped him to feel heard and validated; while also calling him out for his “crap” when needed. She also helped him build a lot of great coping skills that ultimately led to a decrease in self harming behaviors and greater resiliency. The agency dealt with a lot of drama within a difficult coparenting relationship and still remained by our side. I would highly recommend them for counseling services.

Xander will discharge you suddenly after weeks of no contact saying he is now somehow full, but then if you call in and act like a new client, he will say he has openings. Shady.

Don’t waste your time! It took over a month before someone called to get my child scheduled then we had one visit and never heard from anyone after that. I left voicemails I sent email after email and nothing! Don’t believe it when Xander says he cares because he just left my child high and dry!

I have been a client of A Phoenix Rising for roughly seven months working with Rachel Smith and could not speak more highly of the care I have received.

Rachel has been a guiding force of support whose non-judgmental approach has allowed me to find strength and security along my mental health journey. Therapy with Rachel has felt collaborative, reaffirming, and most importantly - safe. And the level of compassion and understanding that is continuously brought to session is truly unmatched. If you’re in the market for a new therapist who is queer affirming, open-minded, and willing to put the effort in with you, I highly recommend working with Rachel!!

Well, I had one session that went well after taking weeks to get back to me. And then every attempt at any future appointment was met with constant rescheduling due to personal events on their end. The last straw was physically going to the building for the appointment I was reminded for just to find the building locked. I got no answer on the phone and no email communication, either. Getting another appointment reminder today is what made me feel like I needed to write a public review. It was incredibly difficult for me to find a therapist in the first place, and now this experience has made it so that I will likely never reach out to any future therapist ever again. Highly upset about how I've been treated.

I saw xander for about 2 years and i grew a ton in that time. I was in a pattern of feeling like i had to depend on those around me to function and i felt incapable all of the time because of my severe trauma. Xander is the best counselor ive seen to date and i have been in counseling for 9 years now. Since seeing him for counseling I have regained a sense of control and love for my life. We began counseling At one of the darkest times in my life and even when i had nobody else who would listen or that i couldnt trust he was a safe ear to listen and he is the only counselor i have seen that has fully gained my trust. If i hadnt left the area i would still see him to this day and i highly recommend seeing him for trauma work no matter how severe. I judge current counselors or possible counselors by the level of compassion and understanding i received in that counseling relationship.

I have had a great experience
with Pheonix Rising. I called
and got a phone call
immediately. I got in to see
someone within 3 days. And
they were great! I talked to
xander first then the counselor
i was going to see. Medicaid
was being really wonky but
they worked with me too
resolve the issue and i didnt
have any interruptions in
services. I have been through a
ton of counselors and i have
finally found one that works
for me. Thank you a pheonix
rising!
