DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE! The staff is unprofessional, disorganized, and extremely rude. We stopped coming to this clinic months ago because I felt that my dog was not getting the attention and care he needed. It felt like they were just going through the motions without actually getting to know anything about my dog and his health needs. Fast forward and it has been 5 months since I requested his medical records to be sent to his new vet and they still are not there. I didn’t get names of the workers from my past requests so they acted like I was lying about having called to request records. I went in the office myself and they would still not release his records to me (owner). The person I spoke to told me that I could not come back to pick them up until they call me (which they have said the past 5 months during other attempts). And then I mentioned that this is why we stopped coming and she sarcastically said "bye" to get me out of the office. I don't leave negative reviews, but the way this staff treats people and pets is deplorable, which is probably why they are hiring for all positions right now.

Dr Mina was extremely thorough during a new patient examination. He and his staff made recommendations for a dog arriving in Hawaii for the first time on needed vaccines and preventative medications. I appreciate their time, helpfulness and welcoming myself and whippet to their practice. Feeling blessed that you got her nails cut too- thank you!

So grateful that Dr Mina and the Maikai team would take an after hours emergency visit for our cat, Momo. He had a painful urinary block that occurred after he disappeared for two days because of the damn New Year’s fireworks explosions. It was a life-threatening blockage that they are still treating him for. But we’re so grateful and lucky to have a compassionate vet in Hilo. xoxo

If you're looking for a cheaper vet that can get you in sooner than others last minute, Maika'i is a good option. However, be expected to wait around 45min-1hour from your scheduled visit time even if you are just picking up medication as they "fill" them when you arrive. Also don't expect great customer service.

Because Maikai takes many non-client "drop ins" they usually overbook themselves daily, we've experienced this every time we went in in having to wait at least an hour for our pet to be seen. And although there are many techs there, there is only one licensed vet there and he may be too busy to see you in person which is unfortunate and has been our experience.

During our last visit to unfortunately euthanize our pet we had to wait an hour and 30 minutes after our scheduled time to finally be seen. Our cat was very ill and the last hour and a half of his life was spent waiting anxiously and uncomfortable in their crowded waiting room. It was a terrible experience and we will not be returning to Maikai.

You get what you pay for.
I suggest paying more and getting a better experience from other vets in town.

Dr Mina is the very best with my Yorky babies! I appreciate the tenderness he shows them and the time he spends listening to concerns. He is a Vet for the right reason and that shows!
