Horrible experience!
When I called, I said I have an ailing older cat that I feel it’s time to let go of. What would be the cost to euthanize her. I was asked if I wanted communal or individual cremation. I was put on hold for about 3 min, then was told $150 for communal and $250 for individual.
Chose individual and made appointment.
So when I was charged $600 for the visit, I’d say I was mislead. My frustration is that I also looked what the cost would be to euthanize at home before making this appointment. The same price I paid at your clinic and my cat would have been put to rest a lot more peacefully. I would have chosen the mobile visit if I wasn’t misquoted at VCA.
I could let the issue of the cost go with some sort of explanation as to why I was not quoted correctly. But none was given.
The bigger problem was the amount of time we had to wait to put her to rest. Appointment was at 11:30 and we did not leave until 1:15. My cat was completely frightened. After they put the IV in her arm they made us sit there for what felt like forever (30min) while my frail cat tried to get away. We had to ask them twice to please hurry and put her to rest.
Not an experience I want to remember yet sadly I will.

Both doctors are excellent and compassionate, as are all the vet techs and front office folks. When you need an urgent appointment, they work you into their schedule. We had excellent care from this practice, including euthanasia services when the time came.

Cut my dogs foot while "trimming nails" and did not tell me they cut her. Tried to charge me $32 for a nail trim when they said they couldn't trim her back feet after they placed my 14 year old dog on her back she was "slipping and sliding all over the place"... so they just didn't do her back paws....but still have to charge full price. I will never go to TRACY VCA EVER again. Also tried to charge me $700 for a blood/ urine panel but said they were unable to get any urine from my dog.

These people were so kind and patient with me it was unbelievable. This was the day I had to put my 14 year old best friend who happens to be a Rottweiler to sleep one of the hardest days of my life. These people really care about animals and I'm sorry to say you can't say that about all veterinarians. About 10 days later I received his box of Ashes and a tiny vial with some of his hair in it and two little hearts on the top of the bottle it's beautiful. What really got to me was the card They sent and everyone there sign the card that just tore me up I must have cried for a half an hour it was beautiful. I think these people from the bottom of my heart they'll never know what they will mean to me and I will think about them throughout my life.

Super great staff. Only reason it's not a 5 is cuz they don't do arborday.org donations in memory of pets.... paws & claws and Jules do do this. It's something I feel is very thoughtful for you to get a living memory of a pet that gave so much Love! Plus it's only $2 to buy a tree in memory and helps rebuild our national forests

A client's cherished pet had to be euthanized and the entire process was done with such compassion and care...there was a separate room for you and your pet. It's a very sad, heart crushing event, but the Dr and entire staff were so supportive! They cared and it showed ? I appreciate your efforts!!

"VCA Old River Animal hospital and this one are one in the same?"

We used to go to another veterinarian on Grant Line but changed because they didn't have boarding services.  This veterinary hospital has cared for our dogs ever since and also board them when we are away on our frequent excursions.

This veterinarian's expenditures are also extraordinary high (In my opinion) but what can you do?  It's just going to have to come down to, "how much you love your animal and what you can afford!"  Not that many places to go here in town and they can pretty much name their prices!

With that being said, I've never had a bad experience here, other than on one occasion which really wasn't a bad experience other than to say they were "uncompassionate."  Telling this story brings back a lot of emotions but here goes...

I brought our old dog ("Sandy" our yellow lab) down because she was old and wasn't able to walk or get around.  When she no longer had control of her bowels "we had to make that very difficult decision to put her down and of course that was left up to me."

I dreaded the "final" ride down to the vet with our dog that's been in our family for what seems like an eternity and now it came to this.  I also couldn't bring myself to look into her eyes for that final trip!

I had to carry her in and set her down while I spoke with the receptionist.  After telling her what I was there for, she had me wait awhile then called my name.  "She wanted me to be with my dog while they put her to sleep..."  I couldn't bring myself to watch our dog go and got emotional.

What irritated me was without skipping a beat; they wanted payment for their services, which I can appreciate, but at this moment.....?  "Give me a break!"

I was losing my dog and they wanted payment.  Yaaa, OK.

Since I was a regular, I just told them to bill me and left!  I was pretty "peeved off" at their inconsiderateness but got over it.  The staff here is courteous and the doctors are knowledgeable and they continue to give our dogs the best care possible.

We brought our black lab in recently because of leg problems and the bill for her care was high but essential.

We continue to put our faith in this animal hospital because they have looked after our animals in "their best interest."
