My experience here wasn't great but also wasn't horrible. The receptionists were nice enough, it seemed clear everyone working there cared for the animals, but I felt communication and consent were not clear which I did not like.
Specifically I brought my cat in for an ear exam, and during the initial discussion in the exam room before the ear check-up we discussed my cats yearly vaccines. I had paperwork showing my cat got vaccines in March, and this appointment was in October - so still about 5 months before she needed to get her shots again. The vet tech was telling me about vaccine costs and saying they could give her shots today and I asked 'do we have to do the vaccines today?' because I didn't really want to since she didn't need them again for several months. Vet said we could talk about it more after the ear exam if I'd like and I said yes I'd prefer that. But then when they came back to the room to tell me about my cat's ears, the vet had both shots in her hands and gave them to my cat without us having another conversation about it. I was pretty stunned because I had been told we'd discuss it again before anything happened, and that just wasn't how things played out.

I never gave them direct consent to give my cat those vaccines during the appointment, and felt caught off guard that they just went for it and gave them anyways even though I was clearly very hesitant and never agreed to it. Clear communication and consent are really important to me. I paid for the exam and vaccines but I won't go back.

I could not recommend Striegel enough. I’ve never been to a vets office where everyone was so incredibly nice, you feel very welcomed when you come inside. My three cats all got spayed & neutered here, and the staff was so kind and gentle throughout all of their appointments. Specifically, my appointments were always a joy if I had Ashely or Betsy, they are definitely two standout employees in my opinion.
I love Striegel, and intend to keep bringing my cats here as long as I live in Southern illinois. If you’re looking for a new vet office, I highly recommend them !!!

I highly recommend Dr. Doggett and Striegel Animal Hospital for your pets needs. I have been a client for years, mainly going in for annual check-ups and vaccines for my four cats, but in the past month, one of my cats fell seriously ill.

I took my cat to a different vet at the beginning since it was a Saturday when my cat’s condition worsened, and they said Striegel or the emergency vet would be the only ones that could help my cat’s condition.

Striegel got me in as soon as possible, and provided top quality care and service for my sweet cat. In our multiple appointments, Dr. Doggett and her wonderful vet techs did everything they could to identify the problem, and to ensure my cat was comfortable and receiving medicine instantly to assist with his problem.

They communicated well to me regarding his condition, and were upfront and honest, which I greatly appreciated. The prognosis was not ideal, and I was often emotional in the appointments. The vet techs, especially Betsy, went above and beyond and comforted me, and they really showed me that they not only care for the fur-babies but for the parents too.

Thanks to Dr. Doggett and Striegel, my cat is finally stable and comfortable, and I sincerely appreciate all the efforts that Dr. Doggett took to help my sweet kitty.

Caring, Prompt and Professional. They helped me out greatly with an injured dog that I had found along the side of the road. They told me to immediately bring him. They assessed his condition and were prepared to get him into a rescue after treatment. Unfortunately, his injuries were too severe, and they ensured that he passed peacefully. They had no interest in charging me for the end of life care for the dog. Top notch people.

Striegel Animal Hospital is THE premiere veterinary clinic in Southern Illinois. I cannot say enough about them! I have literally taken my cats to ALL the other vets from Anna to Marion and Carbondale and can honestly say that Striegel’s is the best. My cat Louis suffers from chronic digestive issues that none of the other clinics came close to diagnosing. Dr Doggett was able to pinpoint his problem after the first appointment all the while being conscious of the cost to me for both the diagnosis and the treatment. When I was unable to attend one of Louis’ appointments in person, she took the time to contact me at work while my husband had brought the cat in for the exam. Dr. Doggett was extremely thorough in explaining his condition and treatment options as well as what I could do should his condition worsen after hours. What a blessing and a rarity these days to find a vet with after hours emergency care!!!

Most recently I brought both cats back for their annual check-up and shots. Imagine my pleasant surprise when the tech, Summer and Dr. Long spent an incredible hour and 45 minutes caring for my fur babies!! Both Summer and Dr. Long were incredibly kind and patient with my “spicy” Cricket and compassionate toward sweet Louis. They also made sure I had an opportunity to share my concerns and ask any questions. To top it all off, after every appointment my kitties have had, I’ve received a follow up call from the clinic to see how the cats were doing! Needless to say, I highly recommend Striegel animal hospital. If you are using any other veterinary clinic other than Striegel, I truly believe there will come a day that that poor choice will be a detriment to your pet’s health. I know it was for my Louis. I am most certain Striegel Veterinary Hospital saved Louis. ?

If I could give 0 stars I would. They completely lied to me about my cats emergency care. After we paid for his care they completely changed what was discussed. The vet refused to do what we had discussed prior to payment. We contacted them to reinsert my cats catheter after he removed it as advised by our primary care vet. They agreed that's what was going to be done then sent him home after doing nothing except a bladder flush that they charged us $664 for. No catheter. Then discussed if he gets blocked up again to just go back to our primary care vet. Dr. Dogget is completely useless and gaslights her patients.

Summer Rains

Took my cat in for an emergency check up. They fit her in their busy schedule and got her taken care of. They are super kind, calm, and compassionate and put my mind at a lot of ease when worrying about my kitty. They are very up front and honest and it truly feels like they love and care for all animals. My cat, poppy, ended up being perfectly fine and they sent us on our way with her being treated with everything she needed. Definitely recommend taking your animals here!!!!<3

What can I say! I wish there were more stars for a start!
I have been so impressed with the care all at Striegel Animal Hospital have taken of my new kitten Pippa, I know she is in safe hands every time she is there, (which let's face it has been way too many times in her short little life so far!)
Owners can tell when a practice genuinely cares about their patients. These professionals do 100%.
