Love VCA Cat Hospital of Chicago. Dr. Thompson is extremely caring and is always looking into new research for our cat Blue. The clinic is always great with sharing documentation with his speciality providers and we feel like the clinic has definitely helped with Blue’s longevity and quality of life. We appreciate everything they do.

I used another VCA vet in the city before moving to the north side. I switched to the VCA Cat Hospital and I could not be happier. Every employee I encountered was definitely a "cat person." It made such a difference for me and my kitty. The vet (Dr. Foose) gave great recommendations on current medications and made me feel comfortable about the dental procedure my cat needed. Caring and supportive staff and so glad I switched!

We saw Dr. Mueller who was great with our cats and gave helpful advice without making us feel pressured about treatment plans, this review is not about him. However, despite telling the scheduling person that I was primarily scheduling for vaccines, we were never informed of drastic vaccine price increases since our last visit and then were shocked with an $800 bill for our two cats (600 for vaccines). This information should be transparent PRIOR to booking the appointment. Their vaccination pricing is significantly more expensive than other vets and vaccine clinics in the area and we would have gone elsewhere had we known of their pricing changes.

We came here from WI to get our cat treated with I131 therapy, as the only place currently doing I131 in state gave us way higher of a cost estimate than VCA had. We would've spent twice as much going to a local vet than we spent here, even if I include gas money & our costs doing testing with our vet.
I cannot praise this place enough. Everyone there was very kind and very thorough about educating us on the procedure & quarantine period. The vet we met with, Dr. Foose, was wonderful & very nice! Clearly loves cats & cares about giving them proper care, was able to answer any questions or concerns we had as well.
Our kitty had a lower dosage and only stayed overnight because we wouldn't have been able to do pickup that evening due to the long drive & our sleep schedules, much appreciated them keeping him overnight to accommodate! I will say the only issue we had was the cat cams for his stay. Since he was just there overnight it wasn't a big deal, we got a link to a camera that didn't have any feed outside of some pictures of a cat from a week prior? So I'm unsure if we were provided an incorrect link or if their cameras were having issues. I woke up & checked the cameras after they were closed, so I did not follow up to get proper access, but just a heads up, if you go for I131 & you would like access to see your cat I would try to check during their operating hours that the feed is working for you! I was happy to at least see the area he was likely staying in & it looked spacious & comfortable.
Overall a wonderful experience & would recommend going here if your cat has a hyperthyroid!

My cat and I had our first visit at VCA today for a checkup. I heard about VCA through an ad that your first wellness check would be free, which I greatly appreciated! Even though I was running late, everyone was very kind and I felt very welcome. Dr. Mueller was great! He was very kind and informative, and I loved that he sat on the ground with my cat to give him the check up, I really think that made him feel much more comfortable. They also provided his first dose of Revolution (heartworm, flea, tick medication) which I also really appreciated. They even put it on for me! They also gave us a first patient goodie bag with lots of helpful information and a toy which I really loved and thought was a sweet touch. Overall I throughly enjoyed my visit today, which I greatly appreciate since I’ve had unpleasant vet experiences for past pets. I cannot speak on affordability of costs since everything was covered today, but I look forward to this becoming our regular vet office in the future. Thank you!

I have been taking both of my cats here for just over a year. The staff is so friendly and attentive. The rooms are thoroughly cleaned between visits to prevent disease transmission — I’ve never worried that my cats will pick something up at this location. I like that I can schedule my cats for back to back appointments here and they can be seen basically at the same time with one doctor.

Dr. Czerwonky is my preferred vet for the way she has attended to my cats, in particular my cat with asthma, but I’ve honestly had a great experience with other doctors (Dr. Currigan and Dr. Foose) as well.

My less healthy cat has completed a dental cleaning under anesthesia here, and the staff sent me updates and photos of her to ensure I knew she was doing well during her procedure.

If you’re looking for cat care in Chicago, I highly recommend trying to become a patient with VCA Cat Hospital of Chicago. They all know and love cats. I have never felt pressured to purchase supplements, prescription food, extra procedures, etc. here. I’ve been privileged and fortunate enough to be able to afford all essential care and some more preventative care as well. I personally get some Rx foods for my cats and the approval turnaround (I prefer to buy online) is always speedy with VCA. I also really appreciate the online virtual support that is offered in the VCA app. It’s come in handy when I have more minor questions that don’t warrant a visit. Overall a great experience being a client here for over a year.

And get pet insurance BEFORE you go because pet insurance will not cover pre existing conditions or conditions that arise during a waiting period immediately after purchasing a plan (typically 2 weeks to a month). So if you purchase pet insurance at least a month before your appointment here, you are more likely to have care that is eligible for reimbursement. VCA is not “cheap” but that’s because high quality care costs money, especially with the vet/vet tech shortage our country is experiencing. Pet insurance will make the costs more manageable if you find the right plan.

My partner and I have taken our cat to 4-5 other vets in the area, and this one is by far the best. They are attentive and detail-oriented and are much more thorough with their exams. Most importantly, they know how to handle cats: where to touch her, how to keep her calm, give her space, keep a spot open for her to hide. Other vets would treat the cat like a dog and stress her out.

---

Edit: our cat needed a tooth pulled. VCA quoted us at $3k not including the blood draw and initial exam! We ended up taking her to another vet that charged us around $1200 for everything, including a blood draw and two teeth pulled. If it weren't for the cost, we would continue bringing her here.
