The Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center is, unfortunately, at the bottom when it comes to healthcare quality. It’s clear that the government needs to integrate the VA Health Care System into the private healthcare sector—Medicare could be a viable option. Personally, I’m fortunate to have private insurance, and I only rely on the VA for assistance with my disability claim. For everything else, I use my private insurance. Several years ago, Congress passed the Mission Care Act to help veterans access care when appointments or locations are an issue. Yet, it seems like the VA acts as if this law doesn’t exist unless you explicitly remind them. Even if you’ve used it before or are currently using it, they’re quick to deny your requests and cancel your access to the Community Care Network and Mission Care Act. It’s incredibly frustrating.

The doctors here are some of the most argumentative I’ve ever encountered. During my last two appointments, they seemed more interested in debating than listening to my concerns. Because I have private insurance, I would never consider having any surgery or major procedure done here. This is the kind of place where you might wake up missing the wrong body part, only to hear an “oops” from the doctor. The facility has been under construction for the past 15 years—how long does it take to remodel and update a hospital? Look around; other hospitals manage it much faster. It feels like they’re dragging it out, wasting taxpayer money while lining their own pockets. It’s no secret that millions of dollars have gone missing, and yet the chief of staff receives hefty bonuses. What a mess and a joke this place has become.

If you value your life, make sure your will or trust is up to date before coming here—this is a hospital where you go to die, not to heal. It’s heartbreaking to see how our veterans are treated. Donald Trump, if you’re listening, please do something about this place. And to anyone working at the VA who reads this review: pass it along, stop denying veterans access to community care, and start honoring the Mission Care Act that Congress passed years ago. Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center Chief of Staffs, stop denying veterans the healthcare they deserve. Our veterans deserve better than this.

Would be great if they opened,"Location VA Hospital OC areas.." Irvine is always expanding new ideas and etc.." Several would agree.. Several of us agreed!" Since several visted from far away distance.." Traffic was busy to get to location.." Voulnteers were friendly greeting you.."

This is where I began my recovery. In 2011, after being homeless for 18 months, I joined the LBC VA and went into the then named VVRC program. Dr. Mark Katz is an actual quack and his plan from me was garbage so I didn’t work his program. This fool called VA regional and LIED to them saying I was unfit to handle my finances.

For 5 years, VA regional sent someone out and I proved over and over again that Katz is a quack. All my bills were in order, house was clean and uncluttered, transcripts from colleges showing 3.0 or higher GPA. And I had a service dog.

Dr. Virginia Teddy, on the other hand, was the doctor that started me to trust the VA. How is it that one VA doctor is trash and the other VA doctor felt VERY comfortable prescribing me alprazolam for acute panic attacks even though I went through the rehab program? At the same exact hospital?

In 2024, I own a house, have enough college credits for 2 bachelors, and have two very small businesses I maintain even with my mental limitations.

I’m not a normal human being still, but Dr. Teddy has the experience and intelligence to know it’s not a “one plan fits all” situation with mental illness and addiction. And I thank God from the bottom of my heart for sending me to her or her to me. In either case, I am who am I today because she started me on the right path.

My only issue is when I get a call about an appointment or to have a discussion about my brothers treatment, they leave the main phone number but not there extension number. The message offers no directory options and if you press 0
the operator has no idea of where to transfer to. Took 25 minutes to find who I was looking for and has happened numerous times. I'm a retired phone systems programmer and the directory option doesn't take alot to do.
It would make things so easier for people calling in.

The ER personnel has lowered the bar for their welcoming committee. It's quite a toxic environment when I go to the ER. I thought they were trained on how to do IV's? Apparently not. They send the most incompetent person in to draw blood and make you look like a dart game after several attempts. Then they threaten you of refusing hospital services when you say please don't hurt me anymore. This happy fellow ( inserts sarcasm) never smiles, has a rude disposition every time I go here and I heard him yelling at an older veteran. Interestingly enough, this public servant is a veteran himself 🥴 If you look at his desk , there are forms to complain to the patient advocate about his behavior.

This place is a joke. Every single time I call and wait to speak to someone, the call ends. With Federal funding and all these employees taking up patient parking, they can not answer phones or even provide a call back service. As a vet I can say the worst thing is the employed vets, they always have attitude and only seem to be there for the check. The people who work the desks, civilian or not, are just as bad. I have seen them turn people away at 12:00 and say they cannot see anyone else for the day. I will say everyone on the actual hospital side, Nurses, Doctors, Surgeons, etc., they have always been nice and are very sympathetic.

What I always appreciate when I come here with my Dad to get his medical care needs taken care of is that there are always plenty of genuinely enthusiastic and helpful hospital staff standing outside each hospital building’s main entrance doors waiting to assist Veterans and their families who are entering the building or being dropped off. My Dad always leaves here energized and in a good mood. The hospital facilities and the entire property grounds are impressively up to date and very well maintained. The staff has always shown my Dad and our family the upmost respect, care, attention, and effort to help us with our needs. Police cars patrol the grounds at night for safety. 5 out of 5 stars would recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
