I’ve adopted from multiple shelters around the east central Indiana area. However this one blew me away. I know funding is different/difficult for most shelters; however let me list why this shelter is so great.

My puppy came micro chipped already, spayed, only needing his last vaccinations, a coupon bag with toys & doggie tooth brush.

The facility was extremely clean, the adoption process was straightforward, & I was able to take my pick of the litter home that day.

They also gave me a free consultation in my pet adoption folder for puppy training classes; which I will be using. I love how easy this process was & I’m thankful for all the work they do for Henry county. I drove from Delaware county for my puppy & I’m so glad I did!

I did my first adoption June 28th 2023 and bought Bobo home. All the staff were very kind in making sure the meet and greet went ok with my current pet Titan. Bobo was cleared of everything and received all his vaccines, tags and a chip. It was a easy process to go through and I'm happy to have brought my 10 month pup home.

I am appalled and disheartened with this “shelter”. The three employees sitting behind the desk couldn’t have been more unfriendly, unhelpful and quite frankly lazy. I came along a small pup walking along SR40 in Knightstown across from Speedway, I called the Knightstown police station, they advised me to take the dog to the Henry County shelter since the dog was found in Henry Co. When I showed up with the dog, I had to basically pull teeth to get them to spend about 2 seconds to scan the dog for a microchip. As the guy was scanning her, he literally said “she’s a cute one, at least she isn’t a pit.” My mouth dropped and I’m not even a pit lover. First of all, the unprofessionalism. Secondly, keep your opinions to yourself, as a shelter employee I am disgusted with your lack of empathy and snide comments. After getting the microchip info they handed it to me on a post it note and it was clearly no longer their concern. They told me they couldn’t take the dog because it was found in Knightstown, I told them what the cops said. They told me to take the dog back to the location I found her and have the cops pick her up and call them, and THEN they would take the dog, they said they don’t have a good relationship with Knightstown and it needed to come directly from the police department. The relationship between the two cities have absolutely nothing to do with me or the homeless, figure it out and do your job. I’ve never known a shelter to refuse a dog much less one found in their own county. Needless to say I will not be donating to this county shelter. Update: drove the dog to rush county. They were closed doing an event at the property and still took the dog in- no questions. They even took my info to update me if she found her owners. This is how a dog shelter should function. I will forever donate to them and appreciate their kindness. I’ll attach pics, if anyone is missing their baby girl, she’s at rush co shelter bc Henry co is worthless.

Pats Vet Clinic.

Had two dogs spayed there. They were professional alright professional crooks. I was quoted a cost over the phone, then at the time of drop off for the surgery was told another price which I accepted then at pickup was charged and additional $50.00 Please don't take you're pet there
and expect fair charges they are thieves.
I was to get a senior discount they added charges to get that back.
They said they tried to call me but that was a lie! Said they left a message another lie!
The younger people seem to forget my generation pioneered cell phones so some of us know more than what they think we do. Most smart phones have very good voice mail and call logs so it didn't show because they didn't call. Lies again! Still adopt your pets there if possible just to get them out of the hell hole. Don't use Pats Vet Service!!!

Doesn't actually serve Henry county. We saw someone drop off a cat in front of our shop, offered to bring the cat in and was told our town doesn't have a contract with them so we can't even bring them in, let alone someone come get them. I'm reaching out to our county commissioner at they're next meeting and make sure absolutely no funding from the county goes to this place. If you don't serve the county, don't name it Henry county and take county money.

Very sweet, genuine, people working. Clean environment. Felt horrible about taking stray cats there, but had no where for them myself. Their employees helped them and me without being inconsiderate to all of us. Over all, a good experience!

First, the Pros for the Barc Park: I'm thankful there are poop bags available lately (at least on the large side, anyway). Glad the water was turned on early this year. Mowing happens regularly. I'm glad that dogs must have their vaccinations and neutering in order to participate. The dogs and their owners have all been very nice.

The people in the office have also been very nice for the most part.

Cons: The website and communications suuuuuccckkkkkk. You can't re-up anything online easily and they flat-out refuse to do anything over the phone. They charge you for using a credit card. They don't send out any reminders (via mail OR email) that your city license or Barc Park pass are expiring; But they are quick to threaten you with court if you miss a license deadline! The office hours are next to impossible for working folks.

The Barc Park fences and gates are full of holes and gaps where small dogs could escape. The gate between the 2 sides of the park is very insecure, despite members' attempts to secure it with chain or bungee cords.

The park key/dongle is very cheaply made and breaks easily.

There is often an irritating high pitch beep coming from the gate lock system.

Whomever decided it was a good idea to place the Frisbee golf so close to the dog park, should rethink that. Frisbees end up in the dog park constantly, and there's no way for the players to retrieve them without jumping (and damaging) the fence if no one is in the dog park. Parking can be tough with the new playground, little league practices, AND the starting point of the frolfing course.

Despite my complaints, I do love the dog park and am happy to pay the dues for my dog.
