My almost 13 year-old dachshund terrier mix was very thin and not eating or drinking. After a four visit to the ER I needed a follow up veterinarian. All the others that I called that were local to me had waiting lists of 3 to 4 weeks. I called Abbey Vet Hospital And they were able to see me the next day. They also were very reasonable and cost versus the other ones that I had to wait. Dr. Penta is very pleasant and understanding. She did a check of Pepper and renewed my prescriptions for peppers, blood pressure and saline solution.

Though I did not have the blood work up and results from the ER visits, the doctor and her staff were able to get that information and print out a copy for me.

A week later I called because I was concerned about Pepper‘s weight loss still and left a message. I received a call back and was told that a recheck was free. So I made an appointment for the next day.

Though the drive is 45 minutes each way for me I felt it was worth it. The care and the consideration of the veterinary hospital is Warm and personal.

We took our Chihuahua to Abbey. Found out he had double ear infection. The staff and Vet were very kind, professional, and affordable. They even told me I can bring him back in a week or so to do a recheck for free. We did in 10 days since he didn't allow me to administer his antibiotics as directed. Infection wad gone they verified. I surely recommend their office as they are wonderful. Our new Vet. Poncho is pur dog on right. ?

Disappointing and Heartbreaking Experience at Abbey Veterinary Clinic

I am deeply disappointed and heartbroken by the care our Chihuahua received at Abbey Veterinary Clinic. Our daughter’s Chihuahua was not eating for three days and started wobbling when he walked. We brought him in, and they decided to run blood tests, eventually diagnosing him with diabetes. They wanted to transfer him to their sister location in Lone Tree Way for overnight monitoring, keeping him on an IV due to dehydration. They assured us that if he ate the next day, he could go home.

The following day, we received a call that he was doing fine and ready to be picked up. However, upon picking him up, my husband noticed he still looked unwell and asked if he was really okay to leave. The vet insisted he was fine because he had eaten a little bit. They demonstrated an insulin injection and prescribed several diabetes medications.

Once home, our Chihuahua just laid in his bed, not eating or drinking. Within a few hours, his condition worsened rapidly. His breathing slowed, and he seemed lethargic. We called the vet, who casually suggested he might have low blood sugar and recommended giving him sugar water and taking him to an emergency vet if there was no improvement. Despite our efforts, his condition declined, and we rushed him to the emergency vet, where he sadly passed away despite CPR attempts.

The emergency vet questioned whether any x-rays were taken, and we confirmed none were. They suspected other underlying issues. We later discovered our Chihuahua had not eaten while in the care of Abbey Veterinary Clinic and were unsure if he was truly taken to the other location, despite being charged over $1000 per night.

The vet released him without ensuring he was fully recovered, showing no compassion for our Chihuahua and seemingly more interested in profit. I strongly advise against Abbey Veterinary Clinic. Pets are family members and deserve to be treated with genuine care and concern, which was severely lacking here. Stay clear and find a vet who truly cares about your pets' well-being.

Took my sick kitty here. Never tried them before but they were so nice when we called and they were able to get us in same day, late on a saturday. They did their thing sent us on our way with some drugs for her, price was very reasonable for services we received. After a week she was all better and they didn't even charge us for the re-check the week later. All the people were super cool with us and very gentle to our sick cat the whole time. She's been super happy since they got her all better. They are under new management and would definitely recommend this place.

I keep replaying the last couple of weeks over and over in my head. And I am so upset with myself for not doing enough homework when it came to the back care for my cat. Her health was declining suddenly and rapidly. I took her into the emergency pet hospital first. A few days later I took her into Abby vet hospital. In the last 2 weeks I have spent over $4,000 on blood work, tests, an ultrasound and radiology. Also medications and special kidney food. My cat had to have her abdomen and lungs drained. She was supposedly given a shot to prevent this from happening again. But when I called the doctor this morning to let her know that my cat died this morning, the vet said she thinks it was because my cat drowned from the fluids that were building up. I was angry. I just brought my cat in yesterday to receive fluids through an IV. She received about 1.5 cc's in about 5 minutes. I was concerned that that much fluid being delivered that quickly might be a potential issue. And I still feel this way even more, considering my cat's health never got better and only continue to rapidly decline. I address this concern with the doctor three times over the last couple of weeks. When I brought up the chances of her health not getting better, and bringing up the idea that we might need to consider putting her down, the doctor redirected me to continue with the test and the medicines. I am so angry cuz I feel like I was taken for a ride. One that cost me over $4,000. As a single mom who works for a non-profit, this is disheartening. We should be able to trust that the vet is there for the best interest of the animal and not their pockets. And I feel this was a case where I was milked completely dry. And when I told the vet this morning that my cat died, they asked if I wanted to bring her in to be cremated. It felt like a slap in the face. Another dig for my wallet. After speaking with others, I found that this is a similar experience with this particular doctor. This is not a new issue, and that's very frustrating and hurtful. When I called the vet this morning because my cat was continuously vomiting, I was told the doctor would call me back within 30 minutes. I ended up calling the doctor back 2 hours later because I never received a call. But this time I called to let her know that my cat died. Once the doctor received the blood test results, and saw that my cat's kidneys were no longer functioning the way they were, she never made the suggestion of euthanizing. I asked, but was encouraged to try the medicine. I contacted the doctor a few days later to let her know that my cat is now eating less and losing the ability to walk with any sort of balance, and peeing where she laid and would not get up from it. I then was set up to have my cat brought in for an ultrasound. They drained the fluid from her lungs an abdomen the day before. I received the results just yesterday about all of the test results. Between all the tests that were ran, I was very frustrated to hear that they could not figure out if it was going to be cancer or congestive heart failure that was causing this. And I feel with the amount of money that I was charged, I should have more answers and questions. I am angry that my cat did not even last two weeks. I am angry that I denied my cat a humane end. Instead she struggled, she suffered, and there is no way of making up for this. It is disgusting that the bottom dollar is what mattered in this case. I will not be back, and I recommend all those who really truly care about your fur baby, don't bring them here.

I am not angry that my cat passed away. It hurts, that's to be expected. I'm angry because I asked three separate occasions about looking at more humane options for her. I asked about whether I should consider putting her down. And instead the doctor redirected me to medicine and more tests. The doctor denied a humane ending, prolonging her suffering, giving us false hope, in draining me financially. I accepted my cat was going to die, what I do not accept is the prolonged suffering for financial gain.

Abbey Vet Hospital is a wonderful place to go for your beloved pets. My experience has been nothing but good. Dr. Sushma and her staff truly care and is there for any questions or concerns you might have. Madison in particular whom is usually at the front desk is very polite and kind. Compared to other places they are fairly good on prices for medicine and other medical procedures. They’ve provided the best care to their ability. Even helping me go through a difficult time when one of my fur babies passed last year. I’m very happy with the service I’ve gotten from Abbey Vet and will continue bring my pets 🙂
