Overall negative experiences at this clinic. We choose Montclair after a few recommendations when we moved back to Oakland. On our first visit our dogs were due a few vaccinations. Our one dog developed a large lump where we assumed she got the shot a few days later. We called and they told us to bring her in. After a confusing back and forth they finally convinced us to have the lump biopsied for cancer… $600 and a week later we never heard back from them. Had to call and ask for the status of the biopsy to which they said it was negative and everything was fine. Clearly, in hindsight, we should have not gone through with the biopsy but they recommended it and we did. We just went back in today and the waiting room was chaotic and the front staff bickered with each other. We told this story to our vet tech and although she was kind she didn’t have any advice and proceeded to give our same dog two more vaccinations even after we asked if we should speak to a vet about her developing another bump at the vaccine point. Long story short, not sure why we were told to go here. I cannot recommend it at all.

Nice place. Professional people. Great techs. Appointments taken on time. Got dental surgery for my guy on quite a short notice. Was afraid he could not be seen due to a lack of recent vaccines, and records since he had only been to moving clinics and a cheaper unreliable vet, but it was no issue! He’s a bit difficult and still handled him great. Definitely the vet we will be sticking with. More on the pricey side but nothing you wouldn’t expect from a good vet.

This used to be a great animal hospital before it shut down and reopened under new ownership. The veterinarians and staff now seem very junior (inexperienced) and as if they were hired from temp agencies. No longer feels like there is care or thought being put into your animal or your visit. It feels like an impersonal, sterile clinic now. Lots or poor and inconsistent communication from the staff even on simple administrative things. For example, I’ve now been waiting for a heart-worm prescription for over 3 days and when I asked about it, I was told I could get it faster by paying a $25 expedited fee. That really rubbed me the wrong way, so I spoke to the office manager about it, who said they don’t charge expedited fees and that was misinformation. Mind you, the receptionist placed me on hold to ask someone else what the expedited fee was, so multiple people seemed to think it was something they did. Even after speaking to the office manager, I still don’t have a heart-worm script in hand despite having just had an office visit and negative heart-worm test. I was pretty disappointed with my office visit as well, but brushed it off as a one off experience. Apparently not. I definitely wouldn’t trust them with my pet. Sadly, I will be looking for a new vet.

I love them! My dog Buddy is a very nervous boy, but they work so well with him. They also had very cool suggestions that I hadn’t heard before, such as getting a baseline bloodwork done now that he’s getting older so we can catch changes earlier and I can help prove that new diseases are new to my pet insurance.

Our pet was recently diagnosed with bladder stones at this practice. While the initial communication regarding diagnosis was prompt, with a technician proposing surgical intervention, subsequent discussion revealed some concerns about the presentation of treatment options.

Through our questioning, we learned that non-surgical alternatives existed but were not initially disclosed, presumably because they weren't available at this practice. Given our pet's history as a rescue animal with multiple previous surgeries, this information was particularly relevant to our decision-making process.

The practice's communication approach also raised concerns, particularly the use of emotionally charged language such as describing our pet as "suffering," which we felt was designed to influence our decision. As my husband is a medical professional, we were able to engage in a more detailed discussion to determine appropriate treatment. However, this raises concerns about other pet owners who may not have similar medical background and might make decisions based on limited information.

We recommend that the practice provide comprehensive information about all viable treatment options, regardless of in-house availability, to ensure optimal patient care and informed decision-making by pet owners.

Really this place deserves 0 stars. They diagnosed my puppy with a rectal prolapse when it was simply that their anal glands were swollen and needed to be expressed. This seems like basic vet medicine to me. They were literally trying to get me into surgery the same day.

It was my first time at this Vet clinic. The receptionist who booked the appointment was helpful. I'm glad she said it's next to the Lucky's and under the Back of America building. That helped me to find it! Parking is difficult, so arrive early to give yourself time to find a parking space and not miss your appointment.

The staff inside are lovely. They were gentle and caring to my rabbit. I overheard a guy who said his dog hated going to another Vet clinic, but his dog seemed to like it there with them. You can tell they really like animals.

My only complaint is they thought it was cute when a Labrador was getting riled up, jumping around and barking loudly in the waiting area, which made my rabbit very scared and nervous. Luckily my rabbit was secure in his carrier. I thought they would have been more considerate about that, which is why I gave them four stars.

Such a great experience with Maddy and Dr. P! Got all of my concerns taken care of and is priced appropriately compared to other veterinary clinics. Will definitely be back!
