Dr. Cooner was wonderful. Very thorough with doing an ultrasound on our sick dog. He gave us all the options and even called our regular vet to keep him informed. He had contacts in Birmingham who were able to get us in same day for a CT. Dr. Cooner and the staff at VCA were very good with Apollo and were extremely compassionate with us. It was a very difficult situation they handled with such care and grace.

we brought our (now deceased) dog here a few months back. to start with i would like to say the people are very nice but they don’t care about your animals genuinely. our dog had a cancerous tumor on her chest, right over her heart. it got very big and looked infected like it was going to burst. the morning that we took her in, she was acting as if she was paralyzed and couldn’t move. she was peeing on herself as well and wouldn’t eat. mind you she was completely fine the night before so we knew something serious was wrong and it was definitely the tumor on her chest. we brought her in after calling and the ladies there just said she threw her back out and was peeing on herself because she probably had a uti. it was none of those things but they did prescribe her antibiotics which helped a bit but her tumor ended up bursting open and it was very painful for her because she didn’t get proper treatment. the antibiotics probably saved her life for that short period of time but it was for a uti that she didn’t have anyways. after we brought her in we called within the next two days and they were urging us to bring her back after they already mis diagnosed her and she was about to loose her life. within the following month we had to take her elsewhere and have her put down since she was suffering. moral of the story is this place doesn’t seem to genuinely care about their animal patients and just try to charge you for whatever they can even, if your dog doesn’t have those problems or need those meds. DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMAL HERE IF YOU CARE ABOUT THEIR WELL BEING. they will most likely end up suffering way more than they ever would’ve.

We had to put our 12 year old boy down yesterday due to dementia. It was literally the hardest thing we’ve ever had to do. The staff was absolutely precious, and so considerate of our situation. They gave us a private room. I told them I wanted him to lay down in the floor with us. I didn’t want it done on the table. I wanted him as content as possible, and the staff didn’t disappoint. They gave us as much time as we wanted. They provided a sleeping bag on the floor. We brought him his favorite blankets to lay on top of it as well. We got to lay with him until he drew his last breath. We got to hold our boy through everything. They never rushed us afterwards. They took his paw prints and nose prints for us. Not very many people get to tell their fur babies goodbye the way we got to. Thank you so much for taking care of us during the hardest day of our life. It meant everything to us. ❤️

Fabulous vet and staff!! My mastiff was in labor and started having problems. We called the ER our vet uses and was quoted over $5000 for a c section and not her options. We called VCA Anniston and they told us to come right away. After an exam and an X-ray, the vet wanted to try natural birth before a c section. It went beautifully! We were quoted $1700 for the same procedure as the other ER. I will always use VCA for any emergencies for my fur babies from now on. I highly recommend them.

Staff is very nice. Building is excellent and Vet is friendly. Guess everywhere could use some improvement though.
A few things didn’t set right with us so we looked for another vet. Why would you want the dog to get another rabies shot when the one they have has another 2 years left on it ? Prices are very expensive too. Over $200 for a nail trim and a couple of shots for boarding the dog needed. Right at $100 for the Vet to come in. Not sure why we needed a vet for a nail trim ( actually tips only because he was afraid of the dog ) and the tech gave the 2 immunizations. We didn’t ask for a consultation or talk about the dog being sick. Just needed nail trim and the 2 immunizations. That was it !

Pricey and so not worth it.
Where do I even begin. We came here for an ultrasound initially. The first visit was OK, Dr. Nelson went over the imaging, explained a little, told us to come back in a month. They also found a mass they recommended we get checked out.
On our follow up they do another ultrasound, Dr. Nelson comes in sipping his coffee, says 3 words to us, is looking at me like he’s expecting me to explain what we are all doing here, advises we get the mass removed and then walks out. His tech comes back, says they couldn’t get the mass to stop bleeding so they stapled it shut and gave me an estimate for 2k to have it removed. They don’t tell me what the mass is but that it could be cancerous.
I come back in a week to get the staples removed, at which point they tell me there’s pus and it’s probably just a cyst and to have it looked at again by the vet.
Fast forward 3 weeks and the cyst has burst, has formed an abscess and has a horrible infection. We took him to our fabulous vet Dr. Young in Piedmont and he cleaned it and gave us medication for $170. They also only quoted us $350 for the mass removal.
Thanks to Dr. Nelson and his staff a perfectly benign cyst turned into a raging infection that formed so much pressure a second hole ruptured for drainage. I don’t know what they did in the process of either the needle aspiration or the staples but it created a much worse problem and infection set in. I also don’t know how they get away charging 2-3k for something our vet charges $350. Dr. Young and his staff explain everything so wonderfully and our dog always leaves healthier when he leaves their office. The picture shows the cyst and you can also see where the second hole formed. This after Dr. Young cleaned and took care of it.

Dr. Cooner has been seeing my rabbits for almost 10 years! Part of them having such a long life is definitely having an amazing, experienced veterinarian to care for them and help us keep them healthy.

We love Dr. Cooner!

First visit and I'm satisfied the staff and Dr Sutton took good care of my girl during her dental cleaning. It has put my concerns at rest and I'm confident we will be back again and again.
