I wish I would have listened to the reviews before going here. I went in for a new client visit and Dr. Ray was not friendly to me or my dog and actually seemed irritable when I would ask him to explain things that he pointed out as "an issue" of my pet. I asked him to repeat something he had said because his vet asst. was talking over him and I can still remember the face he gave me. It just seems like he is doing the job because he HAS to, and not because he enjoys it. I initially went in for a dental cleaning quote but after observing his unsteady hands and possibly vision and hearing issues, I'd feel uncomfortable with my dog under anesthesia with him.

Also - they charged me $650 for my first visit which I think is shocking. It's my fault for not asking for a break down of charges at the start, but you'd think they'd give a new client a play-by-play of what to expect.

Had stopped by to pick up medications for my parent’s dogs, and the first thing I noticed was that instead of a lock on the front gate there was a wooden stake. It was my first time visiting, so I thought this was simply a way of keeping the gate closed but not locked. I walked in and saw that the clinic downstairs was closed even though they were supposed to be open. So I walked upstairs, thinking maybe there was a business office with someone I could speak to. I quickly realized the upstairs area was actually resident living. As I was making my way back down the stairs to leave, two of the residents - who had seen me walking by - came out to confront me. They questioned what I was doing there in an unusually aggressive manner, and I calmly tried to explain to them that I was there to pickup meds for my parent’s dogs. They treated me like I was some suspicious person, and threatened to call the cops on me. Thoroughly weirded out, and feeling unsafe, I told them I was just leaving and they needn’t bother. A day later my dad received an angry call from the animal hospital’s vet accusing me of “trespassing” onto private property (though there was no such noticeable sign posted). I do not understand why this spiraled so out of control, but it seems highly unprofessional and outlandish for a vet to harass their client simply because some upstairs residents flipped out over a young girl’s simple confusion. Even though my parents have been loyal customers for years, we will not be coming back to this establishment. We much prefer the care and professionalism we receive at the Mill Valley vet.

I went to this man for help with my cat numerous times over the course of about four months, every step of the way he was rude and cruel to both me and my partner. His completely unprofessional and horrifying language aside (including telling my partner that she was ‘causing’ our cat’s pain by not immediately bringing her in for every single 500–2000-dollar procedure he recommended) he also charged ridiculous fees for services and advice that, in many cases, contributed to a worsening quality of life for my animal.

We brought her in several times to address her kidney function, which was gradually getting worse. Dr. Ray told us that this was in large part caused by a rotting tooth that needed to be extracted. We accepted this to be true and brought our cat Nora in for an extremely expensive and subsequently traumatic tooth extraction. Unfortunately, two months later we brought her back and her kidney functions had not improved, but had in fact only gotten worse. Dr. Ray told us she had another rotting tooth and that they had to do the same procedure again because that’s what was causing the kidney problems. Naturally, we were hesitant because we had just paid 1200 dollars a few months ago to do the same thing… we expressed hesitation and asked about alternatives and whether or not this was the best thing for our cat. Dr. Ray then went on to tell us that we were “causing this cats pain” by not bringing her in and doing everything he told us to do, despite the fact that what he had just done did nothing but make our cat traumatized and miserable for the months after doing it.

I have attached a receipt from Sausalito Animal Hospital not only to prove that we were indeed customers at this place, but also to show that they will charge you for “polish feline, acupuncture, and nail trim” for 13, 35 and 25 dollars respectively, despite never asking me if they could do those things.

TLDR: This is a hospital that truly does not care about the people who bring their animals in, and while it seems some people have had good experiences here medically, the Kidney levels which we paid 1200 dollars to address only got worse after the procedure. Then the man had the audacity to say we were hurting our animal when we questioned whether or not to do THE SAME PROCEDURE AGAIN 3 MONTHS LATER.

We got our dog neutered here and the vet techs took wonderful care of him. From the moment we walked in, we felt confident he was in great hands. Their service was amazing and very reasonably priced. Our pup healed up very quickly with no problems at all. He didn't even try to bite his wound, I'm not sure if its becuase hes the best dog ever or if the vet did a good job. Either way, would highly recommend.

My dog and I have been bouncing around Vets for years. Not that we were unhappy with any of them, however my friend told me I had to check out Sausalito Animal Hospital.

When we walked in my dog was excited to be there. It's open and brightly lit and just has a good vibe. Usually she goes into full freakout mode but here she was fine. Doctor Ray saw her right away and fixed her problem (a split nail) quickly and easily. The bill was really responsible. This is definitely the only place I'm taking my dog from now on.

Egregious. Unprofessional language and approach towards pet owners who are already in a fragile state, as well as charging clients for procedures before getting consent to perform said procedures ie. acupuncture. Generally doesn’t seem to care about the pet or their respective owners! I would give this place zero stars if I could - avoid at all cost.

My two cats, Max and Cocoa, go here. My cats are my most important thing and I love this team. They take excellent care of my cats. Highly recommend.
