I've been bringing my dog to WMAH since she was a puppy. She's 11 now so it has been a while. Why the 1 star? Because of the new ownership. Dr. Frics is no longer there. There are veterinarians who go into the business of caring for pets because they love animals - new ownership loves money way more than your pets. They are so greedy! I literally left the vet office without treatment for my dog today because they were "forcing" me to accept lab tests for hundreds of extra dollars in order to get any actual medication. I told them I couldn't afford all of these lab tests. In the name of "quality care," they told me they will not be able to give me medication for my dog without the lab tests. I let them know that they used to prescribe me medication without all of these "required" lab tests so what has changed? Is it by law? No. Just new ownership. I told them I can't afford their estimate, and I wouldn't pay for the exam fee since the only thing they did was weigh my dog and take her temperature... no service or product was provided to make my dog feel better. So they threaten me about sending the exam fee to collections. Just wow. They say I took an appointment slot. That's like being forced to pay for an appointment at a hair salon who won't cut your hair unless you also buy their expensive hair products. I took half a day off work for this. After going back and forth for an hour, the exam fee was waived. As a fellow pet owner in this economy, here's my review to spend your time and money elsewhere. Please don't support these greedy businesses and take your pet to an animal hospital that actually cares about the well-being of your pet.

Dr Writt saw my cat, charged me $735 and gave my cat a B12 shot. She wanted $2000 more to test for diabetes. 4 days later he was dead. The vet that saw him could not believe she did not even give him a pain shot, knowing he was dying. She should have known because everything about my cats condition were in the labs. I am devastated that she was so greedy she couldn't even give him a pain shot knowing he was that sick. My God how could a vet be so cruel. I hate her for making my cat suffer. I hope no other pet parents have to endure what I did. I just can't shake this hole and emptiness I have in my gut. I am devastated! I just want to spit in her face but i don't want to tarnish my cats memory. God forgive her maybe she is just inexperienced and maybe just maybe she will learn from this and not hurt someone elses pet. Margo Campa

I took my family dogs here to be seen for some stomach trouble, and I was blown away by how amazing the staff handle him. He is not a small dog and is definitely a handful, and I have been to some previous vets that are hesitant to give him proper care. However, at West Main they all were so loving and caring towards him and me as the owner I cannot say any negative comments about my experience, and I will definitely be bringing, my dog back for all of his veterinarian needs.

This animal hospital just wants to make money off you, it’s like going to the mechanic. Not recommended. Find a trust worthy vet.

Dr Frics and Dr Niu are very caring vets. We have been taking our pets to west main for decades. They havevalways gotten the best of care. The staff is outstanding. Caring and compassionate. My wife and I feel peace of mind in our pets medical needs at West Main

I’m sorry but I can’t stand vets anymore. I just want some relief for my dog because he has arthritis. What I don’t need is a “pick and choose” $750/month treatment plan that’s recommended with an up front cost of $1700.

Astounded that they wouldn’t even prescribe more than 2 weeks of dog ibuprofen without $350 bloodwork.

I supplied his bloodwork from a prior vet but it’s a little over a year old. Guess what, he’s 11 years old it’s not changing a lot. Greed/lawyers/insurance causes this. You mention that aspirin is the LEAST SAFE treatment.. well guess what he has to take now because of your bloodwork costs.

My vet back home cared more about our animals than their profit margin and would routinely prescribe us a year of meds or extra in case we needed it. Not here.

Can’t believe I just paid $100 for this vet to basically say my dog doesn’t get to play ball anymore because I can’t afford it. America

Edit in response: you gave us two weeks of the better prescription, what is that supposed to do?! I know you’d love it if we had to come in every week like the injections require but we live in reality. Two weeks does nothing for me.

Also the aspirin he’s been on was prescribed by a vet, and he has had no negative side effects. So while you may be right, I had no idea that’s why you wanted a blood test. You ignored most of my other qualms, and frankly I don’t know how someone could be a vet, and feel like they’re helping animals by making something as simple as an anti-inflammatory cost prohibitive. Shameful

Just called West Main Animal Hospital called answered by Joyce. Before she asked if I was a patient/client there, she said they are not taking any new pets. I told her we are not new. I asked for pricing for spraying. Didn’t even ask about the weight. Didn’t even ask my name to search records. Very rude and not sympathetic to getting my fur baby fixed. I let her know it has been a difficult decision for me but I would not want this office touching my pet.
