This was our first visit to Akron Vet Clinic, but definitely not our last. When I called with my dog's symptoms, they got him in the same day. Each member of the staff was great. Hershey felt comfortable there and they treated him wonderfully. We have found a new medical home for Hershey. I would definitely recommend Doc and his staff!

I had called around to various vet clinics for an emergency appt for my male Great Dane. Our regular vet was unable to accommodate due to being out on farm calls. Dr. Howard ( and staff) agreed to see my boy if I could bring him in right away. Mind you this was already pushing close to closing time and I am about a 35 min drive and it’s pouring rain. When I got there I was received with a friendly front desk staff and Dr Howard was amazing. He was very thorough and informative about my dogs health concerns. Several tests were ran and although nothing came up as an absolute positive, he made a call to treat him for what was safe and most likely the cause. We were sent home with medication and special food. I was so grateful to have the reassurance that my baby would be fine and that the Akron clinic agreed to even see him on such short notice as well as not being a regular patient of Dr Howard. I was told by many other clinics that they would not see him because he was not a current patient so the care that they provided was top notch.Thank you so much, it really shows the dedication and compassion that you have towards the animals that you serve. I would definitely recommend this clinic. I appreciate them all so much!

I used to take all my animals here, but after the last visit I might have to switch it up. I brought my cat in last week to get her stomach checked as she has had a rash. I was told it was fleas and that my apartment was infested. The doctor tried to sell me different flea medications and flea sprays but I knew that we didn’t have fleas. I talked to my mom about it the next day and she said that the doctor told her the same thing about her dog who has a rash on her leg. He used to be a good vet, but now he just upsells products that clients don’t need.

I love Dr. Howard and his staff. Always friendly and very helpful. They really are concerned about your pet. Dr. Howard takes the time to explain everything, always answers my questions. Plus if there is an emergency, they get back to you. I recommend them to anyone who is looking for a vet. They also carry the medicine and supplies needed for your pet

My story starts with Athena, my younger Doberman, last year. Athena woke up one day, and refused to walk. I was so scared, I thought she had wobblers disease because it’s so common in Dobermans. I rushed her to the ER where she miraculously regained her ability to walk and made me look silly (thanks Athena) and we made an appointment with our regular vet, Akron Vet Clinic.

The vet said that she didnt have wobblers, and instead had a parasite called Neosporum caninum. He said this could cause her to be unable to walk and to start her on a medication that would last 28 days.

Athena came home from the vet and was able to walk fine. I was perplexed because I hadn’t given her any of the medication yet. I noticed her chewing on her paw and I took a look at them. They were chewed raw. She had allergies and chewed her paws, which is why she wouldn’t walk on them. As soon as I realized this, I threw the medicine away because it obviously wasn’t the problem, she hasn’t had any problems since.

Fast forward to Thor. Thor had bleeding in his poop for a while. We were told by Akron vet clinic to give him some dog food that would correct his gut bacteria to stop the bleeding. His poop would get worse, get better, but never really healed. In July, it got really bad and I decided to take him in again.

We take him in and they do a fecal test.

The vet says he has the same parasite that Athena “had” last year and that he needed to do the same 28 day treatment. I’ll admit, I was perplexed by this. I decided to trust the vet but messaged a vet fb group to see what I could do to prevent this parasite from returning.

The vet that responded to my post asked for the results of the fecal test. I told this vet that I would ask Akron Vet Clinic to send me the Information. They just send me an invoice with “Neosporum caninum - 1 oocyst” typed on it and told me that was the official test result. It seemed sketchy to me, but I kept on with the treatment as directed.

As the 28 day treatment went on, Thor continued to get worse. He had uncontrollable bowels and started vomiting. We woke up one day to our house completely covered in vomit and bloody diarrhea. Everywhere. This was my final straw and I took him to the emergency room that night.

This is where we found that he not only has a large mass in his stomach, but also a large bleeding tumor in his colon, so close to his anus that the emergency vet found it in a rectal exam. He has been bleeding from a tumor in his colon, for months.

I don’t believe Thor or Athena ever had this parasite. Akron vet clinic never offered us an xray, ultrasound or any other testing, they just insisted that this parasite was the cause of all our dogs problems and prescribed the $200 medication every time.

Maybe early discovery would have helped, maybe not. But if we found it earlier my dog wouldn’t have lived in MISERY for as long as he did. I feel sick with guilt that I trusted this vet.

My husband called them about my dogs diagnoses… their response was…

“I’ve never heard of a dog having colon cancer”

I made an appointment for my son’s male cat to get fixed and declawed and his shots. The lady that answered my call said it would be $189.00. But when my daughter-in-law got there they told her it would be $450.00. So she left very upset. I’m very disappointed in your office.

Dr. Howard is a very knowledgeable, and caring Veterinarian. He always makes sure we understand what is going on with our fur babies. He is patient and very kind to us as he tries to alleviate our fears. His staff, Tammy and Sadie are wonderful! All of them together are such a blessing! They love what they do and it shows.

I took my pet rat here two years ago when he had an upper respiratory infection. Unfortunately he passed away while I was there with him. The doctor was so so nice to me and explained everything very well. The entire staff tried their hardest and did everything they could have done for us. I wouldn’t take my small animals to any other vet. The entire staff is so compassionate and I was so thankful for them.
