My dog went through extreme symptoms for 13+ hours yesterday as a result of prescribed medications for a preventative care visit. Symptoms included lethargy, he was completely immobile (could not lift his head or stand), and unresponsive for 5 hours (I had to get aid to physically carry him inside from the car), cycles of eerily shallow and rapid panting breath, incontinence, vomiting, and more.

I called twice to report the symptoms and to ask for more details on what to expect. The responses varied broadly from ‘he should be up and eating in 2 hours after the appointment’ to, describing his symptoms as expected 4 hours later and that ‘as long as he’s breathing, he’ll be fine’. That’s really not enough to go on when your pet is laying on the ground with a blank stare struggling to breath and peeing himself.

He has been to nearly a dozen other appointments here and elsewhere, without the need to sedate. Granted, he is not an easy patient, as he has perfected the art of the gator roll thrash. I was open to the recommendation on methods to keep him and staff comfortable and safe. In hindsight, I’m disappointed I trusted guidance to inject and sedate for something as simple as a wellness check and blood draw.

I ask, wasn’t this full day of recovery more stress inducing and physically damaging than the 30 minutes of handling? I really hope more steps are taken to communicate these things more up front to pet parents.

Dr. Wolkow and Jennifer Port are incredible! Dr. Wolkow treats her client’s pets like they are her own. I’ve seen her go above and beyond for her patients and for my pets. I will never go anywhere else, unfortunately for her, because my cats are crazy. Jennifer is an amazing tech and Mr. Kitty absolutely loves her!

I found Belle Isle after taking my rescue pup to a couple of unscrupulous and expensive vets, and I’m so glad I found them. It’s been about eight years now and have consistently found the vets and staff to perform at a high level of compassionate care with very reasonable rates.

I love that I can schedule appts, refill meds and ask questions over the app. I get responses quickly, even when submitting at the end of the day. They always fit me in with an emergency, the vets always spend extra time with me, and my pup, who doesn’t particularly like other humans, feels very comfortable with the vet techs. He lets them pet him and pick him up, which he does not even let my parents do. The vets and techs are all highly knowledgeable, skilled and good communicators.

There were some slight growing pains with the front desk staff transition recently, however, it seems to have been sorted quickly; everyone now is very pleasant, reliable and knowledgeable. Over the years, I’ve recommended my family and friends to switch, and all have been very satisfied with its reasonable rates, convenient hours, and high quality care.

I absolutely LOVE this hospital and their staff. When I moved to sandy springs a few years ago, I had trouble finding a vet I loved as much as my old vet. I came across Belle Isle and have been taking both my dogs here and could not be happier. They are always thorough, caring, and I never feel rushed. Recently I had to take my dog for an all day procedure. Dr. Reinstein was so thorough, understanding and listened to my concerns before and after. Christina was also amazing and super nice. She eased my mind so much by explaining the procedure and giving me updates which helped because I was nervous leaving him. I always feel heard, and they seem honest about what my dogs need. I cannot recommend them enough. Thank you guys so much!!!!
