I’m going to keep my experience candid, it would be a disservice not to.

Out of the 4 counselors I spoke to, and the 2 that I saw personally for a scheduled appointment, only one seemed like they wanted to be there. I don’t remember his name but he visits the base in Mountain Home, wears a hat, THAT MAN IS THE TRUTH. The rest? Not so much.

The intake person I met with was cold and impersonal. This is a job, just a job, to him. No warmth to the interaction, I felt very much like just another number. Don’t remember his name but he has red/strawberry blonde hair. Not the best first impression but I was in need so I met with the therapist he assigned me.

Wow, this lady, long dark hair, should not be working in any kind of social services. She lacks basic compassion for people, she was cold, dismissive, not helpful at all. She made me feel like I was wasting her time. I called and requested another therapist after our second meeting.

The next person cancelled our first meeting. Again, I was not in a good place, I was mentally struggling and the VA was booked. It happened to be the day after Cinco de Mayo? Coincidence? I met him and thought “probably not.” To this man all my woes were just a minor inconvenience, my traumas were minimized, I didn’t go back.

I ask both of the therapist’s I met with if they had ever serviced, neither of them had. It would be hard for them to even fathom what a combat vet went through. My suggestion? Clean house and start over (not the hat man, he’s gold). I walked into the building and there was a group of therapist towards the front, talking. I did not feel welcome, they were gossiping about their appointments. Be better people and hire VETS with compassion.
