We found a bunny on a busy street 7 yrs ago and brought her home. Last month she woke up and her head was turned to the side like when we get a stiff neck. She was still playful she was eating and going to the bathroom normally. After a couple weeks we thought we would take her in to the vet just in case. We were required to pay $110 in advance of the appointment. The vet came in touched the bunny told us she had a stiff neck had no sign of ear infections and suggested we do further studies. He gave us a list of the cost for exploratory surgery and other test that totaled approximately $800. He also stated that there was no guarantee. We waited around 45 minutes in the room, he never returned and later we understood that he was operating on a bird that died. Eventually we decided to leave. When we got to the front desk to check out we were told that we had an outstanding bill for $193 for medications the vet has prescribed. We had not requested the medication and to be fair the price of the medication was compatible with online prices. Our problem was lack of communication that had us sitting in the exam room for 45 mins, as our time is also valuable.

I took my Eclectus Parrot to another vet for a couple of years. She was having intestinal problems. We did blood tests twice and two rounds of antibiotics with nothing changing. Things were getting worse so I took her to Dr. Madrigal. After a thorough check up and tests, I brought her home with 10 days of medication. She was better immediately and today her intestinal issues seem to have resolved. The staff is great and they really do love the animals. I highly recommend them.

I cannot thank the staff of Broward Avian & Exotic enough for the love and care that they have shown me and my pets Porridge, TJ, and Sticks.

In September of 2022, my hedgehog Porridge started to have urinary bleeding. I took the day off from work and called the clinic, they were able to fit me in the same day with Dr. Healan (who also cared for my boyfriend’s tortoise, TJ), and from there we found out that she was having reproductive issues and that she needed to be spayed. At that point I thought that I hadn’t done enough as an owner, and that I should’ve done more to avoid being in that situation. But Dr. Healan’s kindness and guidance allowed me to understand that these things happen and are unavoidable. Porridge was spayed the same night, and I got a call about an hour after leaving her for surgery, Everything went well and I would be able to pick her up the next day — my girl is nearly 3 years old now and I can’t thank the staff enough for giving me the opportunity to love my girl longer than I anticipated.

Since then, Porridge has been under the care of Dr. Madrigal and Dr. Baldwin. In 2023, Her brother TJ was unfortunately involved in a freak accident, my boyfriend and I called to see if we could have him seen and the staff told us to come in as soon as we could. They assessed him as soon as we got there, it was our 2nd time meeting Dr. Madrigal, and I was so happy to see him because I knew then and there that no matter the outcome, TJ would be cared for with the utmost respect. We said goodbye to our boy that day. My family was so cared for and well taken care of the entire time, especially by the front desk staff, thinking about how we were treated makes my heart full every time, and we are so grateful.

We have healed enough to have gotten another tortoise, Sticks, who the clinic loves to see! He comes in for wellness checks, and his sister Porridge comes in for older lady diagnostics and treatments such as laser treatments for her osteoarthritis, x-rays, bloodwork, and ultrasounds. Sometimes the occasional cyst which Dr. Madrigal and Dr. Baldwin are happy to resolve.

Words cannot describe how thankful and grateful I am to have found such a caring and thoughtful hospital for my pets. They have always been there for us through the scary and the good. We cannot recommend another exotic hospital enough, and our thanks goes to all the front desk staff, the technicians, and the doctors. Thank you for everything.

Dr. Madrigal is amazing!!
My African grey parrot was very ill and needed a lot of aggressive care so was admitted into their hospital.Dr. Madrigal went through every detail of my parrots illness. So kind and generous with his time and made us feel assured that Reddy our Parrot will be in the best of care. We were kept informed of his progress,sent pictures. I'm here at Broward exotic animal hospital to bring Reddy home, thank you so very much Dr. Madrigal and your staff for your care and love of Reddy.
