In the beginning of September I had discectomy surgery at this hospital. I have only ever had one other surgery before in my 45 years and that was over 22 years prior. The nurses and entire surgical team were wonderful. Their bedside manner, expertise and compassion made me feel at peace with the procedure I was having done and that I was in good hands. My surgery was a complete success and I am now back to a pain free life. I highly recommend this hospital.

Girlfriend had back surgery here. The staff, nurses, and doctors all worked as one unit. After many hospital visits in Syracuse this was a very welcomed contrast. Way more hands on, everyone genuinely cared, just way more of a personal touch. It didn't feel like the usual industrial machine here. It felt like a team of professionals that all want the best for you and bonus, a sense of humor to boot. 5 stars.

I do need to add just one tiny complaint, I asked several times if they could preform an exorcism on her while she was under and no one took me seriously.

The nurses in the labor and delivery unit are absolutely rude and unpleasant!! Highly suggest going else where if you wanna feel like you are being taken care of or even seen and heard! The nasty remarks that were made by multiple nurses was insane while in LABOR and arguing back and forth on who should have to do a cervix exam!!! My mind has never been blown away so badly when it comes to staff in a hospital, especially in labor and delivery I feel like it should be made a special moment and they did everything to make it not a special moment. Only nice thing about their labor and delivery is that the rooms are large but the energy and vibe is not worth it….. Would give 0 stars if I could !! I’ve never seen someone make you feel more like an inconvenience before….

I had always heard that Carthage ER was the best in the area. When I first arrived, that seemed to be true. The registration team was fantastic, there was zero wait time, and every staff member I encountered was professional and kind.

A special shoutout to Nurse Jessica, who was truly amazing.

And then Dr. Victoria Chanliecco walked in.

In an instant, I regretted ever choosing this hospital. Dr. Chanliecco was dismissive, rude, and displayed one of the worst bedside manners I’ve ever experienced from any healthcare professional. I left feeling unsafe, uncared for, and completely disrespected.

If you’re looking for an ER doctor who will make you feel small, unheard, and neglected, then by all means, go to Carthage and ask for Dr. Chanliecco. Otherwise, I would suggest going literally anywhere else — yes, even the infamous SMC would be a better option.

The only reason I’m giving 2 stars instead of 1 is because the rest of the staff is forced to work alongside such a disgrace of a doctor. They were the only bright spot in an otherwise horrible experience. I will never return.

I myself, recommend Carthage Area Hospital In General over any in the area for my own reasons… but this review itself is made for a woman who made my 2 year old daughters experience forever a happy one there, even having fallen down with a giant bump on her head on the 2nd of July before a party for the 4th. One of the nurses (wasn’t even our nurse) from the ER brought her a home made teddy bear out of a washcloth and tourniquet. Then, when they called us down for my baby’s CT scan to make sure it was nothing but a big ugly bump… the woman came down to get us. Wheeled us down in a wheel chair (first thing that made it fun for my girl) and when we got into the big scary CT room…. She kinda clung to me. And I knew this was gonna be scary for me and her. Nope. Miss Sue from Radiology (I called and got her name I hope I’m right) grabbed mr home made bear and showed us exactly what’s going to happen when she lays down, on him first. So after she made it seem fun and did it on bear. My two year old daughter laid down on the machine, and sang her ABCs with Sue while she ran in and out of the machine 3 times. I was so close to breaking into happy tears, I was so shocked that she did that without moving at all…. All because Sue made her COMFORTABLE AND SAFE. As every hospital should… but she went above and beyond. I wish I could thank her in another way, maybe I will think of something but I hope this reaches her! Thank you Sue! You truly are phenomenal at your job and I want you to know you are appreciated by moms like me!!! Thank you Carthage for having such loving employees!

Night shift er unit is absolutely unpleasant to deal with. The charge nurse and doctor are very rude and did anything just to get you back out the door you came in. 100% take the 5-10 minute drive up the road to lowville hospital.

Wish I could give it 10 stars, The lady at the desk was super nice and straightforward. I came for a physical and walked right out 15-20 minutes later. Super quick and easy. Would come again!
