"My review will not justify just how amazing this Veterinarian clinic is, you ought to see for yourself to know how truly incredible they are. Starting with Dr Askew, she’s absolute a wonder and I am so grateful for her ethical practice and caring heart. Dr. Askew and Liz are attentive, honest, kind, extremely knowledgeable and truly cares about each pet that walks through her doors. Thank you guys so much for taking care of my furry family members, and me for that matter, from the bottom of our hearts - we thank you!!. I have been with Dr Askew and Liz since 2007. As for the staff at Cortland Animal Hospital, they are just as pleasant. Each time my fur babies come in the staff is so welcoming and sweet, they always put a smile on my faces and handle my animals with great care. You’re doing an amazing job making a difference, keep up the great work! We are thankful for each of you, your honesty and integrity is refreshing and appreciated. You're stuck with me for life. Thank you!!!" All animals below have been treated at this amazing clinic, Dr Askew and Liz have even helped me a couple times when I ran into a situation with my horses.

My husband and I have been taking our dogs to Cortland Animal Hospital for over ten years. In that time we've seen nothing but compassion and kindness from everyone there.

When our pittie went into renal failure Dr. Askew and her staff really went above and beyond answering our questions, scheduling tons of appointments, and making sure she got the best care. As a result we were able to have 2.5 more years with her. When it came time to say goodbye Dr. Askew assured us that this was the most fair thing to do for her and gave us as much time as we needed to say goodbye. She did everything to make our Lucy as comfortable in her final moments as well.

She and her staff genuinely do treat their patients as if they were their own. They are all such a blessing and I can't imagine anyone else taking care of our dogs.

I called Cortland Animal hospital for an emergency appointment for my puppy because her vet could not see her right away. The staff was so friendly and helpful and got us in the same day. Dr. Nick was very informative about my puppy's care. If it weren't for the distance, I would be making this Vet our primary. Highly recommend Cortland Animal Hospital.

Meet Ghost. My adorable, loving, BIG BABY of an Italian mastiff also known as a Cane Corso. He is just over a year old and 120lbs. He pees when he sees people because he’s so excited, and he loves his family with all his existence. He is loyal and he is kind. I am his owner and I take full credit and responsibility for raising a well behaved dog.

Cortland Animal hospital has on more than one occasion gone out of their way to give unsolicited, unwanted, unnecessary and unforgiving advice, opinion and direction when it comes to how I raise Ghost and his breed—as if I’m completely clueless. Dr Jacobson was the first to inform me how aggressive his breed is, like I had no idea dogs of any breed could be aggressive, then there was the vet tech this morning *practically insinuating* that I’ll need to euthanize my dog in the future. I left the practice crying this morning.

Ghost was getting his skin scraped last Thursday due to some allergies and the vet was behind him for the examination while the technician was in his face (good idea right?) Well, someone did something wrong, and it wasn’t Ghost. He lunged at the tech probably due to being uncomfortable or being touched the wrong way or feeling scared, etc. you can take your own guess what he was feeling. He nipped at the tech in the face, poor girl. Luckily it wasn’t anything serious at all**. It was simply a warning ⚠️ from Ghost saying he didn’t like whatever was going on and he was uncomfortable. The vet tech is fine, no conflicting injuries. As far as I’m concerned there was no blood drawn, and not even a bandaid needed. Ghost has been going to this vet since he was 3 months old and has no issues at all. He still had no issues as far as I’m concerned. If anyone is the issue, it’s the humans behind the practice who think they know my dog better than I do.

I am employed in healthcare, and if there’s anything I’ve learned it’s that patients and their families know themselves better than we do. Take it from me.

Ghost and I, along with our 2 other dogs are not tolerating discrimination anymore, and to answer your question to the vet tech who inspired my decision to leave NO, he’s not getting “castrated” NOR euthanized by YOU OR YOUR VET—Or by ANYONE. Just because he’s a big dog doesn’t mean you get to discriminate against him OR HIS BREED. Period. DO BETTER. LEARN FROM THIS.

Ps. I would trust the safety of my son around Ghost before I would around you any day.

Cortland Animal Hospital has recently lost a significant amount of their staff and this has impacted their ability to care for their patients. I am editing my original review to show how much respect we had for Cortland in the past compared to now. They have been unable to provide services for months. Whenever I have called for an appointment they have said "we will have to call you back". They do not call back, I have had to call back weekly to receive the same response of "we will call you back". I personally do not believe that I should have to harass my vet to get an appointment. Aside from routine vet appointments, one of my pups has been sick for over two months. Cortland would not see her in person, they continued to test her fecal multiple times even after her fecal came back clear each time. I let them know she was losing weight and they still would not see her and instead had her switch food which was $70 for a 16 pound bag and said she needed to be on that for a month before running more test or seeing her in person. After taking her to another vet (who saw her a day after calling), we found out she has lost 16 pounds in 2 months including muscle loss. It is beyond unacceptable that my concerns were not taken seriously.

Aside from for their inability to see my sick dog, they are also unable to provide annual services. Despite calling over a month in advance they respond with "we will have to call you back for an appointment". They insist they will call back by the end of the week. It's been over 3 weeks and they have not called back.

Those who answer the phone are either rude or incompetent as they never seem to know what is going on.

I truly hope that Cortland is able to hire adequate staff and be upfront with their patients if they are not able to provide services and refer their patients out to get the care they need.

This is by far one of the best Vets in the area. We have seen Dr. Askew, Dr. Ames, & Dr. Otto. Every single of them have been knowledgeable, honest, and upfront. They are always upfront about the cost of services, and do not seem to attempt to get you to pay for something your pupper does not need. They genuinely care about the animals in their care. They have been flexible when I needed an appointment ASAP. They have provided care for my dog & her puppies. They made sure as a breeder I had the access to services I needed. They have also been upfront when an emergency has occured and they need to move my appointment so I am not sitting there for hours. They are also super nice when I call with a million questions and have never made me feel stupid or like I was bothering them with my calls (even if I was haha). They go above and beyond when I have been there, including helping me to bring in my 11 puppies at a time. Or having me pay in the appointment room if there is a puppy in the lobby who may not be friendly with other dogs. They are always professional & respectful and put the needs of your animals 1st.

They know how to prioritize their clients in a way that is not disrespectful towards other clients. Unfortunately, I have been there twice now when they have needed to euthanize an animal. They put a sign up with a fake candle and seem to provide all the care they can to both the animal and owner in their time of need. I honestly can not say enough good things about this Animal Hospital. I will continue to recommend them to anyone & everyone I know. This is not the kind of vet that will stress you or your pet out when you have to go see.

Highlights:
-Affordable pricing, upfront about pricing.
-Friendly Vets, Vet Techs, Animal Care Assistants, Techs, Receptionists, & Cats 🙂
-Knowledgeable
-Flexible
-Compassionate
-Respectful
-Honest
-Genuinely care about your pets.

Penelope & her 11 puppies love them & appreciate them.
