IF I could score my satisfaction with Dr Carson (Abrams) and the whole clinic that number would have a zillion digits.
A year ago, before moving to KS I lost my soulmate Bear of 16 years. His vet (clinic owner) back in Chillicothe at the Chillicothe Animal Hospital chose to ignore my pleas to either see him or arrange for me to pick up an antibiotic & steroid (Bear had had this 2 other times, I knew the signs, symptoms, and successful treatment protocol); instead I was sent a message WHEN the cattle were all done he’d see Bear. We had had 3 great vets there prior to the new owners, now only these (husband & wife) were left, so I trusted him and waited. Prayed, called and left more messages, but by the time I got the call 3 days later, the love of my life as gone.
So, I’m pretty sensitive to my furbabes behaviors, a good vet recognizes this as an asset. Saturday my Tink must have got into something because that morning he was his crazy self run & playing, chasing his older sister Angela, and his new thing running across the house so he could slide on the wood floors.
However, by noon he wasn’t himself - he was instantly lethargic, soon puking and potty accidents were everywhere (cats, esp Persians don’t have accidents UNLESS they are very sick).
Because i wanted to respect how hard the folks at Cottonwood work for us and our furry babes, and it was way after the walk-in Saturday times, I rushed Tink 1+ hrs to Wichita’s Animal ER.
Not only did they put 6-7 ahead of Tink, which was many hours of his looking & feeling beyond definition, but everything was about the money - exam, many kinds of tests, etc which the average visit there seemed to be in the thousands…
From the get go I said I thought he was acting like he had ‘got into something’ and IF they had listened to my years (decades) of being a cat parent, it would have saved Tink a whole other day of suffering for no reason, me a ton of money on tests etc….
By Sunday, I was sure I was right, the vet in Wichita’s ER said he tested ‘positive’ for pancreatitis (but added it could be a false positive). Then sent us away after midnight with no med except for an injection for vomiting. I knew they were wrong, and I’d sat and watched how clients (customers) were handled. Favorably IF they knew you…. All about the money otherwise.
So Sunday night I left Cottonwood a message and I heard back early the next morning that they’d find a way to see Tink and get him some relief.
Tink hadn’t eaten since early afternoon Sat, and almost no water. This morning he was sipping water, looking so much better, but so obviously not out of the woods. That is UNTIL the clinic called and said Dr Carson would get him in, like in 30 minutes ….
Like myself Dr Carson used his lifetime of experience (whole family in vet biz) and his knowledge and tonight Tink is not only feeling his old goofy self, but playing Chase again with his sister, sliding on the wood floors, and HE IS EATING & DRINKING. And he looks amazing. It was hard to believe how he looked just a day before, even that morning.
I am not one to exaggerate, but where Dr %#€= at the Wichita ER nearly let my Tink die from a wrong diagnosis, from unnecessary expensive tests, a wrong treatment protocol….. Dr Carson Abrams SAVED MY SILLY FLOOR SURFING CAT. AND his charge was SO minimal because he knew all the tests would not make it more obvious than what we saw, what he treated him for.
Im going through this long story to reassure anyone reading my review that I take my fur babes health and healthcare seriously and would not do this if I didn’t think there’s a lot of beloved furbabes who need a safe, caring, enlightened place to go when they aren’t well. LOOK NO FURTHER - Dr Carson Abrams & his associate Dr KaCee Tyler are exactly who you can trust with your pet, your fears, and even your checkbook 2where money wasn’t at any point a driving force like in Wichita’s Pet ER, but a love of 4-leggers AND a compassionate heart
