My Mom has been taking her dog Duke to this vet since he was a pup. Now with a second pup, there was no question where little Penny would go for exams and to answer any questions. They're always warm and inviting to the pet and owner. Highly recommended to go here.

Great, as always! We live in the southernmost end of Gwinnett County and drive over an hour each way because they are that good. Their staff, veterinarians, and care are always on point.

This place has lost my trust forever. TLDR at the end.

I brought my two 12-yo cats, Jack & Strider, for dental work. During their initial appt for blood work, I noticed they were more stressed after than at other clinics doing the same thing (this is not our first extraction). The exam was conducted out of my sight, which was unsettling esp with their anxiety afterwards being so out of character. The recommendation for gabapentin to calm the cats was a new experience for me… what are they doing during exams to make patients so much more stressed? Why can’t I be there with them? Why do they need drugs? Are they being handled roughly I don’t know. But my cat-mom senses were tingling.

While Jack received a clean bill of health for surgery, Strider was found to have a previously unknown heart murmur. I opted for further testing - an x-ray that indicated an enlarged heart, leading to a recommendation for an echo. Unfortunately, the specialist was fully booked, and I was left deciding between surgery without the echo, postponing, or doing a BNP. I chose a BNP test instead, which initially cost me $70ish, a pleasant surprise compared to the quoted $200ish. I reconfirmed $70 was accurate bc I was quoted higher. They confirmed $70 was correct (at the time).

After the blood draw, I received no results within the promised timeframe, prompting me to reach out the day before procedure. Doctor was unavailable, & they said to bring both cats in anyways. On the day of surgery, another vet tech (different one every time) informed me the BNP samples were mishandled at the lab, requiring new samples/tests. Was that why I never heard from y’all? Then, she said that I owe them money bc I only paid $70 but the FAULTY test was over $200. So I was misquoted twice for the same test, & that test didn’t even work because of human error, and now I still need to pay you more for it after the fact?!

The tech focused on deflecting blame rather than addressing my concerns, which only added to my frustration. She kept interrupting me & told me I may be confused. I asked her to let me talk without interrupting me, and was finally able to explain that I understood was happening, & I wasn’t confused at what she was telling me but shocked at the level of disorganization being revealed.

So far - administrative & lab errors only. I was considering leaving without procedures on both cats, but was willing to hear out the doctor since admin/lab isn’t connected to surgery. Maybe the doctor can improve my confidence in their services.

Nope. When the doctor arrived, I was shocked to hear him say that Strider's heart *wasn’t* enlarged, contradicting the radiologist who said it *was* enlarged. Upon reviewing the paperwork, it became clear that the doctor had not fully read the results. He built his opinion of “no enlargement” from the word “mild” at the top of the paper, obviously had not read the “enlarged heart” part at the bottom. This lack of attention to detail was the final straw, especially when a heart condition under anesthesia could be fatal. How can a doctor go into surgery without fully reviewing the patients medical history? He kept making excuses and saying he “didn’t want to lose my business”.

Well, I don’t want to lose my cat.

Ultimately, the series of errors, inconsistent communication, and the focus on money & their business rather than my pets' well-being led me to decide against proceeding with any treatment at this clinic. After two weeks, 4 appointments, 1 x-Ray, & 1 faulty BNP test, I left crying with two drugged, hungry cats, no dental work, & wasted time.

TLDR:
1. Increased stress in my cats during visits.
2. Lack of owner presence during examinations.
3. Focus on their business/money more than my cats health.
4. Conflicting information regarding my cat’s heart condition.
5. Mishandled BNP samples and unclear billing.
6. A culture of deflection rather than accountability.

Note: I received a voicemail offering a refund for the faulty BNP test, which is nice, but it doesn't rectify the situation.

We have been going to this practice for 10 years. Barkley is always excited to visit his physicians. His most recent visit was for a problem and the tech who saw him took the most comprehensive assessment he's ever had. Dr Holson was very professional and understanding. We worked out a plan that we were both satisfied with. I felt my pup's best interest were at heart.

They know how to take care of your lovely pets here. I've been coming here for the past three years and I always feel at ease when I have to leave my beautiful baby with them. Definitely recommend taking your babies here if you live nearby ?

First time going to Duluth Animal Hospital. Brought in my rescue/ foster for severe itching and scratching. Dr Holson, Mackenzie and the entire staff were wonderful. Gave medicated bath, antibiotics and apoquel. Did the trick. Greatly reduced scratching and skin is on the mend from bacterial infection. Really appreciate the thoroughness and kindness!

Been taking our family’s dogs here for over 25 years for regular care and everything in between - well visits, vaccinations, spay/neuter, dental work, surgery, chronic health management, and even the final goodbyes. The clinic is super clean and does not have that “vet” smell that many other clinics do. Everyone on the reception team is very friendly and helpful. All the vet techs and kennel staff have always been great with our dogs. The Duluth Dog Depot next door is fantastic with great staff all around as well - we refuse to board anywhere else but there. We like to be regularly seen by just one vet (to keep continuity of care) but we have been seen by all the vets at least once in the past and every single one has loved and cared for our dogs like they’re their own babies. They are professional, attentive, knowledgeable, and understanding! Duluth Animal Hospital has been voted “Best in Gwinnett” for many years for a reason. Whenever we come here and whoever it is we are working with, I genuinely rest easy knowing that we are in good hands. Even after moving away from Duluth, we will happily make the drive and continue to bring our dogs to Duluth Animal Hospital because I do not trust anyone else to care for my pets!
