It is difficult to describe how much the team at Gold Country Vet has helped us this last year. Our boy Lion was suffering from kidney failure and the vets and techs were able to give us another 6 months with him. They were all exceptionally kind, caring and professional for every visit i had. They took great care of our dog and even us when dealing with his passing. I will be a life long customer. I cannot recommend them enough.

I drive all the way from Granite Bay for this vet. My dog has seen both Dr. Wallace & Dr. Johnson & we’ve had a positive experience with both. She sees Dr. Johnson for her continuing care- she is very thorough, very knowledgeable, does a great job explaining things, & I can tell she genuinely cares. I feel her care of my dog has gone above & beyond to demonstrate that. The staff is also very friendly, accommodating, & easy to work with. I never feel like anyone, from the vets to the techs to the docs, are trying to force any treatment on my dog, oversell me, or take advantage of me, while still doing a good job of providing their recommendations. Why is it so hard to find a good vet now? Not sure but if you’ve come here you’ve found a good one.

I cannot say enough praises for this place. Dr.Tafoya saved my cat's life. I came in with no appointment with a dying cat and drove an hour to get there. She was kind, empathetic, and honest about the surgery my little Cleo would have to go through. I don't think I would be ever able to repay her or the clinic for the years I now have with my Cleo. Thank you.

After being referred to Gold country I am very happy with the service they provided myself and my animals. Their staff is super nice and knowledgeable. I brought them a litter of puppies to have their tails docked and dew claws removed and they did a fantastic job and it was affordable. I will e taking my animals to gold country from now on.

Doctor G. Is a very good caring Vet!
Our Dog "Baby Bella" was 3 & 1/2 years old when she got Osteosarcoma Bone Cancer in her front leg June 2024. She was far too young.

I talked with numerous Doctors and Surgeons with the goal of getting Bella the best care, & Best options for a 2nd chance at life. To give her any additional added years to her life that we could give. Our options for treatment were to amputate her leg to stop the pain. Since this cancer was highly aggressive it had already spread cancer cells throughout her body. So the next steps after surgery amputation, would be Chemo. From 3 months up to 1 year with Chemo treatments around once every 3-4 weeks.
At this point, almost all of the different Surgeons were saying she will have added years to her life of 1.5 years upto 8 years. What they all were not telling me was that the Cancer would almost definitely come back and with the highest probability of growing new tumors in her Lungs, Brain, or Jaw. In comparison to the pain she was experiencing in her leg those areas affected by the cancer would be 10X-20X worse more pain and suffering compared to her front leg.
Leaving this critical part out or not emphasizing it was very misleading. Because it hurt me so much to even think Bella would have to endure and suffer pain way worse than her leg later. To me it seemed like a very pointless pursuit to have to put her through all of that unnecessary pain.
Doing this keeping an animal alive to suffer this level of pain was not for her benefit at all but for myself to not have to lose her.

This is where Doctor G.'s Professional, Upfront and honest advice and educating me on the true cost (physical pain cost not $money) of the course of treatment, and her probability of living a long life was actually much less than the other vet's inflated and misleading expectations of her recovering from this type of cancer with a 10% chance was not at all worth the risk of putting Bella through all of that pain. With the high probability of Tumors accumulating & growing in her lungs preventing her to be able to breathe, slowly suffocating. Or a Tumor growing pressing on her Brain and that pain seems like a poke on the finger compared to the pain in her Leg bone cancer that she was already experiencing just after 3 weeks with this type of Cancer because it's so aggressive and spreading. Or a tumor in her Jaw preventing her from just using her mouth eating, drinking. These were the 3 likely areas this cancer will return to.
I felt that all of these other vets just wanted to do the surgery procedure to make a sale. Letting me believe she had a strong chance of being healed.
The 2 most Valuable Sources of the truth about the type of cancer she had, came from #1 UC Davis Small Animal Oncologist Hospital, and 2nd was Doctor G.

I am so Grateful for Doctor G's honest advice about the true probability of her recovering. Because just thinking about the point of when the cancer would return and the level of pain she would be going through from surgery to Chemo to dealing with the same outcome of the cancer all of it seemed so Meaningless & would of hurt me SO BAD ? to see her suffering that enormous pain. It's just unthinkable and would of been a horrific and traumatizing experience for not just Bella but ourselves too us Bella's family who loves her deeply.

The Decision to have to put her to sleep forever seemed like the best outcome for her. Because she wouldn't have to experience that level of suffering. We had to let Bella Go on July 10th, 2024 @ 6:00PM. ? ? I would have paid Any Cost financially to have saved her life or even to give her a chance at recovering.

I am indebted to Doctor G for his honest professional advice. Because he chose the truth & honesty over making a sale.
Doctor G's Prices were Way Less than most of the vet's we went to.

In conclusion, I would Strongly recommend your Pets care with Doctor G at Gold Country Vet. I would also Strongly recommend above all for the best professional advice & diagnosing CALL UC DAVIS!!! STATE OF THE ART ANIMAL HEALTHCARE

We started using Gold Country Vet (formerly Edgewood Vet) when we moved to Grass Valley in 2022. We usually see Dr. Tafoya, who is amazing! She is knowledgeable, compassionate and my dogs love her and the staff! She diagnosed one of my dogs with an ACL tear (double) and she scheduled his surgery with a ortho surgeon who visits every month. It was a huge success. They have a TPLO protocol that included post-op laser treatment, pain meds and follow ups. Jake is doing great. We have also gone in for a broken toe, skin issues, vaccines, etc. and every time they have treated my dogs with TLC.
