I was very excited to find this veterinarian as I have recently moved to the area and there are so few equine vets here. She did a great job floating my horse's teeth and was quite affordable, however, I will not be using her again. Her assistant was extremely rude to me and overly rough with my elderly horse. I have never experienced any of the difficulties with this horse in previous floats that he had. She typically stands perfect, sedated or not, hand tools or power. When I offered advice to keep him safe and her comfortable he suggested getting a chain, a device this horse has never and will never need, and then informed me that I don't know what I'm doing as an owner. Rather than listen to me about his hand placement on her to keep her comfortable, they chose to back her up against their truck to keep her from moving and never looked to make sure her legs weren't against the exhaust pipes. They were, so I moved her to keep her from getting burned as the truck was running. He was more concerned about his truck's welfare than my horse. While sedated he jerked on her several times and almost made her fall. The morning after the procedure my horse is extremely stiff in her neck and poll and has minor swelling under her law. Despite being able to chew freely now due to her freshly floated teeth, she did not finish her grain (and she loves her grain) and has been exhibiting lots of discomfort in her face and upper neck. This is something else that I have never seen from her after a float. Being rough with my horse is one thing I can't stand, but he was also very demeaning towards me and made me extremely uncomfortable and upset with his comments. His lack of professionalism or bedside manner that I have typically seen from a vet tech/assistant through my 22 years of horse ownership truly astounded me. I have never been so happy to see someone leave my property. To clarify, the Dr. was great. I enjoyed her personality, professionalism, and quality of work, but unless she gets a new assistant I will be continuing my search for a regular vet. Very disappointing.
