After about only two days of bringing Ritchie home from the humane society, I can say he is the most loving and goofiest cat i have ever met. Everyone here treated us with the most respect and care. it’s obvious they truly care about their cats, and are very knowledgeable as well. the second we walked in the door we fell in love with Ritchie, and began the adoption process, which took about a week. If you are looking for a cat, I’d definitely recommend making an appointment to stop in and see their cats:)

I adopted my cat Cedar from The Hancock County Humane Society back in August, and I was so pleased with the process. They guided me to the choice of a male verses a female, because typically male/female cats get along better than same sex cats — this is something I never knew, and I am grateful for their input. As far as how the adoption process was, it was incredibly smooth and thorough.
On the day I brought Cedar (he was Truman to them) home, it was a special day, and every day has been more special due to his existence in our little family.
Thank you, HCHS.

My mother had a customer at her job tell her that the humane society in Greenfield Indiana may have our cat that got out a month ago so we decided to go on Saturday December 9th 2023 during there open time to go there. We were greeted by a older lady that we assume has been running the place for years. Before we could say anything she opens the door and asks what we want like we're bothering her. We tried to explain the situation to her she said that they have not taken any stray cats and for months and the cat in question was born here about a year ago.

She didn't even let my mom look at the cat to ease your mind thinking that our cat was there. She was very rude had no empathy for our situation and acted like we were a nuisance to her and that we were doing something wrong.

If you're looking to adopt an animal sadly I would choose to go to another organization or another county because apparently the people here do not care or want to be here.

Browsed available cats to adopt online and saw several at the Hancock County Human Society. Was lucky enough to get a same day Saturday appointment. The facility is clean and the animals are very well cared for. There were four volunteers watering, feeding, cleaning and sanitizing the premises and helping the public. The staff without exception were polite, welcoming and knowledgeable about each of their cats. Special thanks to Monique, Melanie/Melinda, Beverly and the lady whose name I missed. We came for one but chose to adopt a special needs kitten and another little furball.

I've visited a few times in the last few years, and have been disappointed each time.

The staff is exceptionally rude, rarely if ever updates their website, and has a strange obsession with every little detail of your home (beyond the point of reason).

If you're looking to adopt a new fury best friend for your home, I'd recommend looking in a place that doesn't see passersby as urchins groveling for a chance to see their animals.

They only have cats, but the cats they do have are very sweet and well cared for. For the most part the volunteers are very helpful and friendly, though be aware of the one or two volunteers here that obviously don't want to be there. One very rude woman has a terrible attitude, but please don't let her dissuade you from adopting from this place. The woman who actually owns it is incredibly nice and very dedicated to the wellbeing of the animals in the shelter's care.

The adoption process starts with you visiting during regular hours and meeting the cats and kittens. If you find one you want, you'll fill out an application. They'll go over your application and let you know if you've been approved, usually within a week. There is an adoption fee, which varies depending on who you decided to adopt. The fee pays for vaccinations and spay/neuter if necessary. You'll have to have your own carrier to bring home the cat you adopted.

I see some wonderful reviews here which is why we really were looking forward to trying to adopt. We tried to call for twenty minutes with no answer so we stopped by to set up an appointment as we were just around the corner.
The person we spoke to was completely unprofessional and rude. We will never be back. We went up to Hamilton County and had the most amazing experience.
Hopefully this will not be a normal experience for people.
