I went here to take care of some billing issues. I had tried to explain my best over the phone but decided it was best to go in the women in the phone said that she would print out my paper work and help me understand it. I was sharing some frustrations with the website and some of my bills not showing any consistency. When I arrived I sat down begin speaking with someone that was different that who I spoke to on the phone. After a few minutes, the officer in front walks in and I hear from behind me” George it’s this one over here” I was one of two people in the building. I was still sharing some frustrations with the women in front of me but never raised my voice or showed anything other than respect it confusion about the biling process. Next thing I look over and see one of the workers point at me next to the officer and I hear her said “ I think he calmed down after he saw you” it immediately clicked that she called this officer to observe me. As a black man this was upsetting because I was doing nothing that deserved to be watched or afraid of. After I got my bills settled I told the woman that was whispering that she didn’t have to call the officer in and she would not look me in the eye. Before exiting I went and talked to the officer and told me, that he had my name down and was told by the women that I was showing signs that put some of them on alert and he was called to make sure I wasn’t going to do anything. I explained to the officer how this felt like a bias and that they were afraid that I was frustrated and happened to be black. I thanked the officer for keeping them safe but this did not sit well with me. To the woman that called the officer in, if you are afraid of frustrated people talking about bills, you need to be in a different line of work.
