A few weeks ago I adopted Coal (formerly Jeep) from Humane Fort Wayne. I had an incredible experience with the staff and happy to say Coal is doing great! The new building is awesome and they offer so much support that is helpful for a first time owner!

All the staff was so nice and I found my Lara Lee. She is a work in progress but I have all the time and patience and love to give her. It is so very true adopt do not shop, there are so many animals that need homes and if you are that person you could love one beautiful animal would be so awesome. Try Humane Ft. In 2017 I brought home an old cat from your old adoption facility on Hanna.
He was supposed to die in a year or so, and I felt bad for him. He kinda waited forever to go home, several months just sitting. Once home, he turned onto a really great, old, weird cat, and with some TLC, vet visits to monitor arthritis and lots of whatever food he wanted, he put on weight and decided he was going to stick around until October of 2024. Sir James Frisky let me learn how to walk seniors into their own version of retirement.
Because I'm a crazy person I went directly to the place I always go on my worst days, the Humane Fort Wayne Adoption Center. I volunteered a bit breaking down cardboard, allowing my grief to be purposeful.
I spoke to one of the animal care staff, one that had been there forever. I inquired about their oldest, messed up cat. Okay, seriously, who needs a home?
A small, genetically unsound cat was shown to me, she was perfectly strange and adorable and honestly absolutely adoptable, after some incredible medical care Humane Fort Wayne can now offer its adoptable animals!
In fact, it was the medical team that pointed out Jelly to me.
Jelly had been at the Hanna Street location prior to the big move to the new building at 901 Leesburg Road.
Jelly needed some longterm medical care and was older, a black cat and not a kitten on everyone's list. She had adoption barriers, and we could turn that around.

I had already loved Jelly, always catching my eye. I had posted about her on social media, just a sweet, affectionate cat that needed a home. Blew my mind she was still there.

The tremendous medical team walked me through what adoption and fostering would look like, what post adoption care was required. They provided all the foster equipment and checked in with me on her progress. They also stayed after on the day of her foster to adopt dental procedure to make sure she recovered well and could be safely handed off to my care.
The staff asked for updates and cheered her on and last week we finalized adoption. Tomorrow she'll get her 10 day vet check and after that Jelly will be returning returning to her duties as house cat and heart healer.

Thank you Humane Fort Wayne for your ability to find a place for the overlooked, and unnoticed pets that have important work to get back to. That you for letting the community love them too.

The new facility is very impressive and is a great asset to the community. The cat and dog holding areas are outstanding with lots of natural light.

The new facility is beautiful and the staff are the best! Put your application in, in advance online (it stays good for 6 months). This will make it super easy to adopt when you see a pet that you love. Humane Fort Wayne provides a wonderful service to the community.
