Don’t waste your time trying to adopt here. They have so many “available” animals but their adoption process long and is not set up to actually adopt them out. I thought they were in the business of finding them homes, but we’ve waited over a week without any communication since we applied to adopt. We’ve tried to call and email and you just cannot get in touch with anyone. They have terrible hours and if you do go to see those available for adoption you cannot actually see them. They quickly walk you through. You can’t interact or touch any of the animals. I’m not sure what they’re doin there. I would just go somewhere else! There are plenty of places adopting out animals in need that are willing to actually allow you to adopt. This isn’t that place. We’re moving on…

We went here earlier today. The staff and volunteers were amazing. The service was just outstanding. I went to a Humane Society in Chattanooga, TN, and the service was not near as good, and the animals were all in cages. You were not allowed to take them out. Here, the cats are separated into 3 different rooms. The first room, which is the room you walk into, has so many sweet, adult cats. We fell in love with 4 of them in there. Then, the room near the back, has so many beautiful cats, I was in love with them ALL. And then, in the other back room, there were the most beautiful and sweet kittens I've ever seen. The staff will sit there and help you find your new friend to teach you unconditional love.

Apparently, you can volunteer at age 12 as long as you are accompanied by an adult in your family. Just a few more months and I will be old enough. The cool thing, parents, if your children are interested, you don't have to get your hands dirty, as long as you are supervising your children, they can do the work, and you only have to watch!

The dog area, it was amazing. I've never seen so many dogs that were so loving in my life. I was actually surprised. With the dogs, if you find one you like, they will go get a leash and you will be allowed to bond with it out of a cage to see if it is the one for you. I've never seen a shelter do this.

The place is shabby, and their budget is low. They really work hard providing the best place possible for their animals. They got really creative in the rooms with old tires and t-shirts. There were really cool litter boxes they made out of scraps. They work hard and I admire that.

As for the applications, they are best online. The reason they reject so many is because they want the best home possible for their animals.

The staff welcomed us and treated us like family.

This is definitely a great place to go if you are looking for the perfect family pet. 🙂

If any of the staff are reading this, I hope you remember us, Ashley, Kingston, EJ, and Lily. It means the world to us all that we got this experience.

The date we came was Saturday, October 7, 2017. It was around 4:00pm.

Thank you!

Update:

My cats Grady and Lyle are so sweet! I can't thank you enough for them! xx

Over a year ago the place was spotless, it was like an operating room where the dogs were housed. Today my wife and I stopped by and the place had no help, the area where the dogs were housed was deplorable, stunk and the was dog dodo all over the floors where the dogs had to step in it. Urine was running out of the path that you walked in. If this is is a non profit location, then they must be using it as a money laundring location. If it is being run by the city then it needs to be inspected. We had to sanitize all of our clothes when we got home.

I picked my newest member of my family last week a Labahoula. ( labrador retriever/ Calahoula leopard dog! The staff did a wonderful job with these puppies. My puppy is definitely spoiled, and used to attention. I have a 2yr old lab Shepherd mix. He needed a friend so we were able to get a lab Calahoula mix and the two are already best friends! My gentle giant loves his new little brother. And cannot wait for him to get bigger. I would definitely recommend The Humane Society. there were six puppies left, they were only 10 weeks old. And the Humane Society has lots of animals. It’s a win-win you save a annimal and they save you.!!

We had the best experience with the shelter. I first went and got little Banjo (white). Then, we went back 2 weeks later and got Corndog (black &white). Everyone was so helpful. I am still in contact with the ladies from the Humane Society.

We adopted our wonderful dog Cocoa (formerly Mayflower) from HSNWG six weeks ago. We have nothing but praise for the dedicated volunteer staff and the amazing facility. The place is clean and new and they are so fortunate to have so much open space and exercise areas. We found the process of adoption to be easy and appropriate. I would not want to adopt from a facility that basically just handed over a dog without careful vetting of the adopter. During the pandemic animals are in high demand for adoption and you have to act quickly. We were fortunate and couldn't have been happier with our experience. Thank you for all you do!

We had such a great experience here. This was our first time, ever, adopting from a shelter. We initially went for a specific dog but it did not work well once introduced to my other dog. The staff helped me find my perfect match - Ricky! He fits into our crew as if he's always been here. Thanks NW GA Humane Society!
