I am not saying this place is bad. But just it got really expensive-I studies all my bills since 2021.

Annual vaccine with health check(including parasite screening which is a great exam for $56, not bad)
which we went last week became $459

2023 was $395.75
2022 was $379.09
2021 was $325.20
…..I know it has something to do with inflation but I guess we can’t afford anymore. When I told these prices to my Pet family friends, they were all shocked. I didn’t know there are other places much cheaper to do annual vaccines.

Dr. Ciampa is a fantastic vet. However the overall practice has gone way downhill. My pets have been clients of Kenwood for nearly 20 years. And I tend to be loyal by nature. I also really have liked working with Dr. Ciampa. Over the past few years, Kenwood has eliminated evening and Saturday morning hours. Prices are higher than anywhere else that I am aware of. When you call to make an appointment, it is not uncommon to sit on hold for 10-15 minutes. It is difficult to get a same day sick visit for your pet and if you do get one, you pay more. Can you imagine being charged more by your pediatrician when you make a same day, weekday sick visit appointment? Kind of crazy, right?

Our go-to vet. Dr. Dougherty and her staff are amazing, and made us and our dog feel right at home. We just moved back to the area and can't imagine going elsewhere for veterinary services!

Kenwood is a fantastic vet. They are very caring for our dog and very knowledgeable when it comes to our dog. They are very informative with each visit, and the puppy plan ended up being a great option and price!! I would recommend anyone in the area take their dog to Kenwood, you will be very pleased.

Really loved this vet. I recently moved to the DC area and needed to find a new vet for my 10lb dog so she could have a regular checkup and get her annual vaccinations. They did have to call me to reschedule my original appointment because of availability of their vets, but the team was super kind and accommodating- they got me in sooner because of the reschedule, which was impressive.

I came in for the visit yesterday, and while I was waiting in the waiting room, I noticed that a large poodle had been brought in for a quick surgery follow-up. Dr. Champa came out to check on the poodle, and immediately knelt down on the floor to be at the dog's level- this was so awesome to see! A vet who really gets IN THERE with their patients is super rare. The next thing I noticed was someone coming in to pick up their dog- the vet tech immediately came out to greet the owner and they actually seemed like old friends! This vet tech- named Rob- had an absolutely excellent way of communicating and connecting with everyone who came in - he helped with my appointment as well, and went above and beyond to make my lil dog feel comfortable. THANK YOU ROB! You are awesome!

When it comes to my actual appointment, I left super happy. Dr. Champa spent 10 mins on the floor talking to my dog and giving her treats so she had less anxiety before her shots, and she went out of her way to inform me about the specific shots being administered, challenges I should look out for being new to DC (rabies, ticks, etc.), and even suggested a cheaper way to get heartworm prevention. Dr. Champa is one of the most thorough and knowledgeable vets I have ever come across - I didn't feel rushed during my appointment, and I felt like she truly had my pet's best interest at heart when recommending next steps. She also spent extra time answering my questions about the best way to clean my dog's teeth!

I feel that Kenwood Animal Hospital is truly a great place for my pets. The staff is caring and they are also reasonably priced. Kenwood also has parking right out front, so that was easy too! Highly recommend this place and Dr. Champa!

While I've only crossed their threshold a half dozen times over a few years, so far, the prompt and attentive service is always there. The dog seems to enjoy the place too, which always surprises me given how and where he gets poked and prodded while in that building. They must do something right in that regard, and consistently so. Seems more of a dog office than one for cats, but I also didn't make a list.

By all means DO NOT take your pet to Kenwood Animal Hospital or Kenwood Canine Clubhouse!

I recently went out of town for four days and used Kenwood’s boarding services for the first time. When I went to retrieve my dog on the fourth day, he came out looking like this! (pics attached). No one from Kenwood even NOTICED that both of his eyes were severely red and bulging out more than usual – I only had him in my possession for a few seconds before I realized that something was really wrong.

Before I even left the parking lot, I had him examined by Kenwood’s vet (Dr. Cathleen Ciampa). She assessed that he presented bleeding around the eyes and under his eyelids, most likely a result of a subconjunctival hemorrhage – the causes of which can include anything from blunt trauma to the head to excessive choking of the leash. Even in her own notes she described this may be the result of unsupervised trauma!!!

The next day I took him to see my primary vet at CityPaws and she assured me my concerns were valid. She dismissed that this could have been the result of an underlying health issues, such as seizures, since he’s never experienced these before, and concluded that the bruising around his eyes indicated that he experienced some type of trauma to the head while in the care at Kenwood.

I’m both furious and sick to my stomach thinking about what my poor dog went through. I was a new client, trying out Kenwood’s boarding services for the first time – I hate to think what they do to the animals they treat on a regular basis! Never did I think that this decision to send him to Kenwood would result in this. I chose Kenwood because unlike a lot of the boutique boarding facilities in the DC area, this one was connected to a vet hospital and this would be the safest option should there be an emergency. I understand that accidents happen and DO happen. However Kenwood’s lack of transparency in this situation is absolutely unacceptable. Still to this day, they do not know what happened to my dog, which either indicates 1.) they are understaff to properly care for the pets they receive or 2.) the staff they do have are not properly trained — I’m not sure which one is worse.

I implore you to not make the same mistake I did and look for other options for you and your pet.

Our golden got into some gum and consumed a lot of Xylitol, we brought him in 30 minutes before they were closing and the staff welcomed us in and took amazing care of our boy and us. All the staff were extremely welcoming and nice, and stayed after hours to finish the great care on our pup. Would definitely recommend Kenwood Animal Hospital to a friend, nothing but great things to say about our experience!
