On, Sunday, September 29, 2024 I phoned the emergency line for the La Porte Animal Shelter and reported finding a new born kitten that needed help. I purchased a kitten formula and bottle to feed this kitten. I’m allergic to cats and reported this to operator #2. He said there was a worker coming to meet me at the shelter. I packed up this cat and took them to the shelter to meetup with their worker. No body called or showed up. I had called the emergency number 4 times and every time the guy told me to wait for the worker. In the mean time, a lady showed up with a dog she found. We both waited over an hour and nobody showed up. I called back and operator # 2 said to release the baby newborn kitten and the dog into the streets. I informed him that the kitten wouldn’t survive and the dog could get hit by a car. Operator #2 wouldn’t give me his name and said if they survive then they survive. The dog was someone’s pet. I couldn’t believe it! I will no longer support this establishment! Shame on you!

We are looking for a new fur baby, so we stopped to see the puppies. Staff was super friendly and helpful as well as knowledgeable about the pup's personalities.
The pups were clean and seemed well cared for.
We were able to go straight back and see them outside as well as see their living spaces.

Adoption fees are VERY reasonable.

I wish I could take them all home!

I recently adopted Nora, a sweet tabby, from The Jane Bernard Animal Adoption Center. She has adjusted so quickly to our home and her 2 new dog siblings. She found her litter box quickly and has had no accidents at all. I can’t thank the staff enough for their kindness and the seamless adoption process. We adore our new furbaby and have renamed her Phoebe! 🙂

Very helpful and kind Staff. They keep it clean and smelling nice. Please adopt, also don’t forget the seniors that need Homes too. Not just the young ones.

Super disappointed in this place. I lost my GSD a few weeks ago and decided I wanted to give another dog a home so I search their website and say a dog named Tammy. I was on my way to work but wanted more info about her so I called. A man answered who first acted like he didn’t know who the dog was and the treated me like he was too important to be bothered with questions about the dog. He knew absolutely nothing so he claimed. They have zero desire to find these dogs homes. I also find it strange they aren’t open on weekends when people are off work and have time to adopt a pet. If I could give them zero stars I would.

This is a very nice animal shelter. All of the employees were friendly. I was allowed to sit in the room which houses the cats to enjoy just hanging out with them. There were a few dogs as well but as with any facility, such as this, some of the dogs are loud when you walk by. Kinda like a nursery. One baby starts crying and they all start crying.. I’m sure they’re just scared. Overall I enjoyed my time there and might possibly consider volunteering.
