This shelter is VERY MUCH A KILL SHELTER. I understand that it is difficult to run a shelter due to the amount of money it takes to shelter and care for dogs, but there have been many instances in my 23 years of living in Lagrange, that this shelter has made wrong decision after wrong decision. Animals that have been WELL WITHIN being brought back to health have been needlessly put down because it’s not an “economical” decision to keep that particular animal alive. Recently they put down a dog with surface wounds down due to a collar being left on its neck for too long. The dog was very alert and friendly as can be. Due to it being a Mixed pit breed, they put down an animal with survive wounds that could be healed as long as someone with time and empathy was employed at the shelter. There are countless rescues in the area for animals like that and all it would’ve taken. If you are considering taking an animal here that you cannot care for, I advise you DO NOT DO IT! They WILL put it down if it is seen as inconvenient or “too much” for the shelter to handle. Once again, I understand how difficult it is to maintain a facility like that and keep it funded, but historically there has been a consistent lack of empathy from the majority of the people employed here. Do better Troup County.

We adopted a kitten who was the last of their litter. We didn’t even have the kitten 2 weeks before he stopped eating and wouldn’t drink or poop. I called to the shelter and they said I could bring him in. I went in with the intention of surrendering him, because obviously he had health issues I wasn’t made aware of. The guy at the front said they could feed him, deworm him just in case, and keep an eye on him to see if he gets better. He said not to sign the surrender form since I’m willing to come back to get him once they call. I dropped him off on 12/4. Today, 12/9, I called to check in since I haven’t heard anything. The guy at the desk said he didn’t make it. I asked when he passed, he said the day after I dropped him off. I asked why no one called, and he said because I didn’t fill out the form (the one he told me not to fill out since I’d be coming back). Terrible communication.

Very unprofessional and not organized. They will euthanise your dog without you knowing and act oblivious about the situation. no compassion or empathy from theses people. Avoid if possible.

My boyfriend and I adopted our very first dog from this shelter. When we saw his picture, we immediately fell in love! I contacted Taylor at the shelter and she was so helpful with our adoption! We couldn’t be happier with our choice. We live an hour away and she kept me posted on how our pup was doing until we could pick him up! We were so impressed with everything we made sure to make a donation and treat the staff to some pizza! Thank you all for your help!

Im 16 and had found a severely malnourished dog in the middle of nowhere and I brought her to the shelter only to be rudely told that I have to be 18, then when I asked what I’m supposed to do, the clerk snapped back and told me that I’m supposed to “be in school”. With no empathy for my situation at all. Animal shelters are supposed to be safe havens for animals brought in by anyone no matter the age . I wasn’t even supposed to be in school because I don’t have a first and second period. I have never seen someone so sour working at a shelter.

I had to surrender some kitties. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. I had several and they couldn't take them all, which I understand, but told me to check with them later and they could take them. Clean facility. If you are looking for a new pet, please adopt. These furbabies all need their furever homes.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GET AN ANIMAL FROM THIS SEHLTER : Me and my wife adopted 2 kitten we had one for 5 days and he died the other was extremely sick and we Nurtured him back to health

However these people have no care in the world for the animals they shelter they claim the cats are free due to over crowding that's just entirely not true they are free because they are severely sick and the shelter refuses to treat them in any way shape or form

If there is anything I can do to get this place completely shut down trust me I will because at this rate the animals have more of a chance for survival on the street than in this facility which is is just sad

Not to mention the staff is just rude and act like they would rather be doing anything in the world other than working there as a matter of fact when I went the actual worker who was supposed to be helping me with the kittens walked away so the janitor had to help me and wouldn't you believe it she was so much nicer and helpful than the woman who was supposed to be helping

Just please whatever you do don't support these people in any way

Adopted a 6 month old puppy on Friday, had her dying in my arms by Sunday and rushed to an emergency vet where she laid on the floor. Extreme case of parvo. The vet said it was one of the worst cases she had ever seen and thankfully we got her there in time to get meds and fluids. The utter lack of professionalism, worrying about money over care for their animals, and just laziness of doing their job is disgusting and shows the kind of people there. I hope she makes it, but be sure to take any animal you get from here to the vet the very next stop to get checked out since they don't check, isolate, or give proper care. Best of luck to future fosters, adopters, and people looking for their best friends.
