I adopted my dog who went by “Hook” at the shelter last November. The staff was so patient and kind with our family, and let us take our time to get to know the dog and take him on a walk around the property. The facility is clean and looks a lot more enriching than other shelters that I’ve visited. “Hook” now goes by “Huck” and has become my best friend. He brings so much joy to the family and we spoil him rotten 🙂 I am so grateful for this shelter and how well they take care of these animals while they wait for new homes. We are going to look there again in the future so Huck can have a buddy.

This is a no kill shelter. The staff here take wonderful care of the animals. They always make sure the animals are exercised, fed, watered, and loved. When you go up there you can see how the animals love the staff. My son and I adopted two older dogs that were raised together. The shelter is an asset to Lemhi County.

Awesome shelter. I got a kitten from there in 2016. He was a foster kitten, so I had to wait until he was off the bottle to take him home, and they were so nice about getting back to me with updates on how he was doing via email. He was healthy when I got him, and he is still doing great.

My experience with this shelter was very poor. I went in to adopt a dog for my family. I found one that worked perfectly for my needs, and instantly fell in love. I was looking forward to adding a new addition to my family, and give my child a companion to play with.

My family and I had moved into a new home, one where we can enjoy the company of animals. So, after much discussion, my husband and I agreed to adopt a dog from the local shelter.

Currently, our home does not have a fence. But we will be putting on in this spring. When they found out this, they said that it was not okay to adopt a pet without a fence. I understood, and told them I had a place to keep her until the fence was finished. They told me that this wasn't okay, the dog had to go to and stay at my house. I asked what my options were, and a kennel was appropriate. My husband works in a store that sells them. This was a great idea and I was willing to try it.

The lady that works at the shelter said that I was not getting the dog. She made it very clear that even if I buy a kennel or put up a fence, I was not welcome to have an animal from the shelter.

I don't understand this. If I want a pet, and am willing to put in the time, money and effort needed to not only take care of it, but to make my home an acceptable place for one, why am I being denied?

Always chip your companions! Thanks to Lemhi animal shelter and Anti care animal shelter they were able to locate and bring my boy back to me in time for Christmas... TY Tony! You rock dude!
