I drove over an hour to reach this shelter. They have beautiful animals, cats and dogs in need of love. The helpful staff greeted me, the foster parents were waiting with a cat i had requested seeing. They do amazing things for these poor souls, and i left with a beautiful 9 year old ginger cat who i took to my vet two days later and learned the cat is really 3 to 5 which made me a bit angry because i really wanted an older cat! So the numbers may be off that they have listed with each cat, keep that in mind. Also i put a deposit on tabby who needs dental care. The only note or thing i wished they had done differently…

1. Had a list of questions to ask yourself, it’s overwhelming seeing all the animals and you want to take them all home so keeping on track with a checklist would be helpful. I forgot to ask who the longest resident cats were in foster, i would have like to have seen them.

2. I think people dont know how long cats can live, so on the question sheet, perhaps some information about that would help some of the older cats get adopted too.

3. A note on the cat room visiting door, that reads, if we are in here with a cat please do not enter. I had a woman who kept coming in and out, she was older and keys in hand waving them as she spoke, and startled the cat and kept asking me “are you going to get him?” Multiple times, and i didnt want to be rude, but i wished the staff had asked if she would give us time alone and helped her out of the room. It also changed the energy in the room, making it a bit stressful.

4.Orphans of the storm has an open air room, that is really nice to see the cats or sit in and let them come to you. I wished there was an open room to sit and observe the cats in.

5.The visiting room was really busy, with things on the wall, a TV with birds playing which as nice, but mounted so high the cats have neck aches looking at . The room needs to be simplified too much going on was distracting to me and the animal. A sofa, a cat tree, a tv medium mount and carpet is all you need with a table and a few toys. Simple, and focused.

The staff were really really nice and very knowledgeable about the personalities of many of the animals. I felt a little rushed myself, i was there for two hours, so be sure to allow yourself the day. Choosing a pet takes some time , step outside, come back in, take a minute, it’s a lot to take in with cats meowing dogs barking and plenty of people and staff. Naws is clean, and fully staffed, many animals in need, lovely caring volunteers, i highly recommend Naws to anyone looking for their forever friends.

Im so thankful and wish i could have taken them all home. Be sure to bring donations when visiting, they have so many animals.

Thank you Naws!!! Kindness to animals is all that matters.

We adopted a pup from NAWS and the entire process was great. After filling out the adoption application and being interested in various dogs, we spoke with adoption counselors Leah and Martina, who were very helpful. We met several dogs before choosing our pup. Our pup was fostered by a lovely family for a few weeks prior to coming home with us and I feel like they really helped for a smooth transition. We were contacted by other NAWS team members for various follow ups once home to make sure everything was going well and offered support if needed. We would adopt from NAWS again and recommend them to others who are interested in adopting a new family member.

We found our family cat at NAWS. We love him so much! Everyone there was so friendly and they took the time to help us find the perfect cat for our family. The cats are well taken care of and there are so many to choose from. The staff responds to emails and texts promptly as well which is so helpful and it makes the process so much more enjoyable. We highly recommend.

Well, what can I say, I went to a lot of shelters, looking for the right Cat for my daughter, I filled out a lot of applications, I had everything ready to adopt. And I was always leaving every shelter with my hands empty. Once I went to NAWS everyone was very nice and welcoming. Coraline, our Cat was the first one we saw and the 1st to take our hearts . It was easy to adopt because I had everything ready. We went to a living room with Coraline to interact with her, and all went great, more than I expected. That same day we took her home ♡
I Highly Recommend NAWS ♡

Adopted an adorable feline friend named Maven from NAWS in July and the staff and volunteers were great throughout the process. They let me spend time with several cats until I chose the one. They also had all of her medical history ready to hand over, with all shots up to date, which was reassuring.
I love how much they are helping so many pets - our Maven was rescued from another shelter to avoid euthanasia, and was at NAWS for a year and a half! Despite that, you can tell she was well taken care of during her time there, as she is a healthy and sweet little lovebug. I also appreciate getting 10% off their vet clinic for the pets life when adopting from them. Nice little perk!
Would definitely recommend for pet adoption!

I cannot say enough amazing things about NAWS. I was not expecting to leave with the perfect animal companion for our family but I was wrong. Not only did we adopt a new family member but Prince fit in with our chaos. The team at NAWS knew exactly the perfect fit when I said "we are looking for a cat that will thrive in a high energy, cuddly and silly family. We were introduced to Prince and that was it. We were all educated on important details on homing cats, introducing them to your home and had a packet of updated medical history of Prince. I had more information under my belt about cats than when I left the hospital with my first born. I truly felt prepared, cared for and my experience was nothing short of incredible. I recommend NAWS to anyone looking for knowledgeable, professional and caring people.
