Nice, local animal shelter. They have a program called Doggy Day Trip where you take out a shelter dog for a few hours of the day. I've done it a few times and the process couldn't be easier. Fill out a brief questionnaire on their website and someone will call you in about 1 or 2 business days. They'll set up a time that works for your schedule. Once you arrive, you'll fill out another super short waiver and off you go with your furry friend for the day with a backpack they provide with a bunch of doggy essentials. They'll even provide you a list of dog-friendly places to visit, if you're unsure of where to go. If this program is not for you, please at least consider donating money or food, or even new or gently used towels and blankets. Or even better, foster or adopt from here! Please help these these deserving animals.

I came for a health certificate for my kitten because she was traveling with me to Texas, and the service was great, very friendly staff, and ethical. The Doctor is very kind. I 100% recommend this place and all its staff.

My husband and I chose to spend our honeymoon in Hawaii, and stumbling upon the "take a dog out for a field trip" experience was a highlight of our trip. We discovered this program through social media and decided to give it a try during our visit to Oahu. Our decision was absolutely worth it! I’ve attached some photos from our day. Came in today with my two small dogs. We were only able to give short notice and needed health certs and rabies. Both of our dogs were really nervous, but they took good care of our pups. When they walked out of their appointment, they were both I th very happy and their anxiety was eased. This is the most affordable place to take your dogs on the island and they're kind!

We highly recommend the Oahu SPCA!!

By appointment only. Makes sense in order to not only not put too much stress on the animals by not overwhelming them with too many visitors but also because of the space at the facility. They are thorough in making sure the pets will be a right match with each person/family. First you have to apply for adoption. Once it gets approved (which doesn't take long) they will respond and set up the appointment to do a meet and greet. Originally we wanted to see another dog for adoption. Grace assisted us and thought another dog would be a better match based on what we wanted. She was right! On our appointment day we saw a couple of dogs but overall decided on the one she recommended. Another thing I liked was their option to foster the dog for a week to see if they are a good match. We knew after a couple of days this dog would be in her furever home.

I love the staff there. I’m a frequent flyer since I do rescue work and they have be nothing short of helpful and friendly. They answer questions thoroughly and address any and all concerns. They express compassion and kindness at every visit, including the at the Petco low-cost vaccine clinics!

I’m not sure how I heard about the Oahu SPCA, but my dog passed away recently and they popped up on my IG feed to borrow a dog for “doggy day trip”. You donate $ and get to take a super cute pup out for the day! The dog I got (Lilo) was SO sweet and amazing, we spent the day at the beach and her backpack came with treats, toys and a towel. It filled my heart since I haven’t had a furry friend for a few weeks, and the organization is great. Lilo got out for the day, I felt better AND she got adopted a few days later!
