Everyone at Pieper Vet Hospital was friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and overall the type of clinic you can trust will put you and your pet as their top priority. Our cat went in for an exam due to an overall lameness so we requested a full workup. The doctor listened to our concerns and later called to let us know the results. Test results returned very quickly. We came in the next day for a follow-up and were greeted with smiles and compassion. The prices are reasonable as well. We recommended the clinic to friends and family in hopes that they too can have a great experience at the vet.

My dog came home from day care lethargic and vomiting bloody mucus. We called her primary vet who was concerned enough to say she needed to go straight to the emergency room. We got there and waited just short of five hours. On top of that, my dog was reverse sneezing almost constantly so we asked for some water believing her throat may have been irritated. We were told not to give her any water, so she had to sit there wheezing for hours. Finally we were one of two people left as we waited for the room to be cleared. My boyfriend asked the receptionist for an update, and was told “Oh you’re next.” Immediately following this, a tech came out and took the other person in. That was the last straw. We ended up going to an emergency hospital in North Haven and were seen within the hour. Pieper was also taking non-severe walk-ins after we had been waiting hours and taking them straight to the back. If a dog vomiting BLOOD, is not an serious emergency, what constitutes an emergency? I would love these people to answer that. Luckily my dog made it, with ZERO help from these people. I will never bring another pet here as long as I live. They don’t care about you and you are just a number. If your pet dies it will just be onto the next for them.

If I can give zero stars, I would please if you have an emergency and you love your pet DO NOT BRING THEM HERE!!!!!!
A month ago I brought my 3YR OLD cat here who had am emergency I explained she was lethargic, vomiting, diarrhea all of a sudden and mucus coming out here rear and salvia, they told me someone would be with me ten min. time passed and I started to get anxious no one still, I go to the desk and ask someone coming she looks like she going almost crying.
They did not care at all!! hours later someone comes takes me to a room take her vitals where they state it was normal when clearly she was not and she had a fever.
They take her to the back and here i'm thinking she is going to be ok she is getting the care she needs, after 5 hours I get to speak with the only vet they had that day short staffed and unexperienced workers.
Dr overcast presumes to tell me that they almost lost her that she was turning cold when they went to check on her because they had other animals to attend to with more critical condition!! MY CAT DIED!!! she didn't make it, my best friend is gone!!!! he tells me there's a 50/50 chance bill now is estimated at $6000
they now trying to administer IV fluids plasma get he glucose up from prolong waiting, hours pass and they said her condition was the same but now he comes up with what may need to be done to get her better I say do all you can, and I ask to see her because they tell me she has to stay overnight he declines me to see her excuse she has a catheter on, I can't see her and I would never after that.
The next day they call me still same status they keep with treatment made sure to collect all my money before doing anything now we are close to 20k if she makes it past surgery now she needs surgery and now she's given 15 percent survival rate.
They get her levels ok for surgery not 100 percent, she goes under and they call me to tell me the surgeon doesn't feel comfortable with the surgery and her intestines are inflamed time to euthanize her and to make a decision right away.
12k down to put her down, they ran all these test they claim and no answer no clue of to what was the cause opened her up and nothing, to tell me she be ready in an hour dead to see her.
TOP it off they tell me I have 30 days to do the cremation on day 3 they sent her to get cremated and DID NOT CALL ME INFOM ME, WHEN MY SON AND I SAID IT NUMEROUS TIMES WE WANT TO BE PRESENT!!!
TWICE they failed me to let me say goodbye to my best friend twice and they did not care.
I went to pick up her ashes which they got back a week already and did not call me to inform me again!!!!
NEGLECT NEGLECT NEGLECT !!!!!
I believe she could have been saved if they acted accordingly and if they had to many patient let me go elsewhere to have given her a chance.
over a month later I still do not have copies of what they did leading to 12k.
Do not bring your pets here, if you want them to live, going back to get her ashes place felt like a morgue and smelled like death.

I change my rating from 4 to 1 very very disappointed and disgusted after yrs going here. How the two Dr's and Manager that handled at time. After always thanking them and for being professional ended up not being.
To be continued with detail!. As I had to take time to heal from all I went through with my Special Little Man Bam Bam ❤️

And then after a week of rain after his passing. He came back to Me at Hawk as he came each evening till finally he sat outside the window, got my attention, looked my eyes to eyes, and flew off. He's always around calls out when he coming in . ?

The folks at Piper have been more than helpful on more than one occasion. Expect to wait, just as any hospital. Lol but they do their best to get to you asap and you get the full attention of the staff every time. If your pet needs help, especially after hours, do not hesitate to just show up here. Calling ahead is not a bad idea tho. They also have internal medicine and pharmacy right on campus.

Would’ve highly recommended this location a year ago, but oh how things have changed. All of the other recent reviews you’ll see below with 1 star are all accurate. This location does not care if your animal is in an emergency, they’ll continue to make you wait even if you’re the only person waiting for care. Watched 15 other people come in after us and get treated prior to us. Had to complain for them to put is in a room to be seen by a doctor “a couple of minutes later” only to wait for another hour. After waiting for another hour we asked the front desk where the doctor was and they had no idea what I was talking about, as if the doctor had already came to examine our dog. Once the doctor finally came in, he hadn’t been informed of any of the issues and would only speak to us for a few minutes. Will never be coming back here. I’ll be driving the extra distance to the west Hartford ER next time, and I suggest you do the same. Nothing but a waste of time and heartbreak here.

Not sure how this place still has 4.2 stars at the time of writing this review, mid 2024. My family and I have been taking our pets to Pieper since the late 80's when it was a single historic house with a waiting area that was the original living room with a fireplace. So many great doctors have worked here (still do), and it has an amazing and rich history. I have nothing negative to say about any individual doctor or employee.
That being said, they have been struggling for years now due to their aggressive growth and expansion. They're completely out of touch with the needs of their customers. Everyone is just a number now. All layers of this organization are in disarray. The phones, the scheduling, the availability, the customer service at the frost desk. It's a case study of poor management.
They seem completely overwhelmed at all times. What they're doing now is expanding their awful management all over CT by buying up smaller clinics. It's absurd, and really sad and unfair to the community and the hundreds of employees they have.
I rarely write reviews. If any of the above changes, even 10 years from now, I'll take this down or edit.
Good luck all.
