Over the last 15 years, we have had multiple experiences with the staff at the clinic caring for our old lady pup, Abby. Dr. Susan Fraley was the on-call vet when we took our Abby girl in for help last night. Dr. Fraley was extremely helpful in diagnosing the disease that our old girl was suffering from and was kind, compassionate, and caring when we made the heart-wrenching decision for our girl to go over the rainbow bridge. We will be forever grateful for Dr. Fraley and her staff's passion for humane care for our fur baby and ourselves.

I grew up in the area and am a Purdue grad, I’m extremely disappointed at the costs they are charging now, there were always a place we could bring the horses for good care at a reasonable cost.
When I took my working dogs for their annual visits, Dr Thompson came across as a bully telling me the list of “national standards” regarding shots and testing because I prefer titers and said legally he couldn’t examine one of my dogs because he hadn’t had a rabies shot in the last 3 years, even tho his titers show he has sufficient antibodies. How about Purdue uses their influence to change Indiana laws to allow titers instead of supporting injecting dogs unnecessarily, especially when it can cause harm.
I was also double charged for the visit. She had me scan my card twice, said it didn’t go through the first time. I just happened to take a look at my charges and see the double charge. I know mistakes happen but let’s take the money out of your account for a few weeks and see how you feel about it.
They are charging the same or more than local veterinarians. They have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the community and give back, and they are absolutely missing this chance. So much for any interest in offering alumni donations.

They seemed to be more interested in making a research subject of my cat and making a name for themselves via a journal paper than what was in her best interests. I would take my cat to a school of veterinary medicine again for diagnosis and treatment but it definitely would NOT be Purdue. On the other hand, I have heard very good things about the Univ of Illinois SVM.

We were able to visit Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine for a school event. They teachers and staff were very friendly and gave a well guided tour and explanation of the campus. They also answered every question we threw at them.

I don’t write many reviews.. However, after taking a look at the low rating on the reviews, and then, consequently reading the reviews, I was so disappointed. Majority of the low reviews have to do with the high cost of someone’s veterinary care… And I have a few comments I would like to make:

1. If you have a pet, make sure you can afford to take care of it. It is not the veterinary hospital or any veterinarians problem that you took in a pet that you cannot afford. Animals, like humans have emergencies and those emergencies are very expensive. Ensure you are planning for that or get insurance. I was a college student and had a pet that I could not afford… That is my fault/problem not theirs.
2. To say that the veterinarians are in it for the money is a slap in the face to the entire profession. They have high debt to income ratio due to veterinary school yet their salaries are not as high as you would expect… They cannot care for every animal that walks through their doors for free. Otherwise they would make no money and that hospital would close.
3. Veterinary medicine utilizes the same materials, Instruments, etc as human medicine. And just like human medicine, costs have gone up… Therefore, veterinary medicine will go up as well.
4. This last point that I am making is incredibly sad to me and why I am so passionate about leaving this review… Veterinarians have one of the highest rates of suicide over any profession. And it’s not because they have to euthanize animals, that is actually one of the lowest Contributors to the suicide rate. It’s bc of the low income to stress ratio and the people that belittle and yell at them saying they are greedy horrible human beings that only care about money. They are not in it for the money, if they were they know human medicine is the way to go… but they love animals and helping your pets.

So before you go off on a veterinarian or veterinary clinic/hospital because you cannot afford the cost of taking care of your pet.. think about everything I said above.

I’m a Purdue Alumni who majored in animal sciences, I didn’t go the vet route due to the salary to debt/stress ratio. NOT because I didn’t want to help animals… I’ve been a client there for many years and out of the 5 ER visits I’ve been to, 4/5 have been perfect. Just like a human hospital, they have a lot of patients. Expect the same wait time here. But know you are getting the best care possible with every specialist you could need under one roof.

I had to take one of my rabbits due to her not eating for a couple of hours and feeling lethargic. Dr. Thompson was really accommodating for me and my rabbits. It was over an hour long drive there so he was considering that and let me know the costs of treatment for Coco to explain how he would try to make sure the costs stay as low as possible, which I appreciated. The girls at the front desk at the emergency area were hilarious as well. Thank you all for all that you do!

Had to take my cat there for emergency treatment that our normal emergency center couldn't take care of. From the moment we arrived my wife and I were impressed with the level of care given to our sick boy. They treated him immediately and got him the care he needed. Although they had to deliver bad news (terminal cancer) they did so with the upmost tact and respect possible. I was highly impressed by the student doctors we worked with while my cat was there. I've dealt with many different types of veterinarians in the years I've had my cat and I can say that these two student doctors will make great vets. I can't compliment them without also recognizing the internist we had. She did an exceptional job and was even willing to stay late one day in order to accommodate a visit. She kept my wife and I up to date with all the latest information and was able to explain his condition to us in a manner we understood. This facility is an hour away from my home but I can say that if I'm in need of emergency pet care I will make every effort to return.

My 10 year old Cardigan Corgi Sweetie was referred by my local vet here because of such a slow heart rate that soon she would have died. She had already passed out 3 times. She was seen immediately by a Cardiologist and a pacemaker was implanted in her neck down into her heart. Since we live 4hrs away, we received at least 3 phone calls a day updating us on her condition. We were able to bring her home the next day and she’s doing really well. The Drs. we’re so good at explaining everything and very professional. I definitely recommend this place. It was very heartwarming that our baby was cared for so well.
