I had taken my cat to be cremated and was told she was next in line and it would be 24-48hrs before I could come get her since a large dog had came in that morning before her. Each day I came by they kept telling me she was next in line and then all a sudden a bunch of dogs came in over the weekend (mind you I took her in on Monday at 1pm and she was a 3lb cat)Not once have I had to do this for a pet and they are the only place/people that had caused me so much emotional distress. I’ve been grieving for my cat I had since I was a 8 year old child. No compassion, no respect, and no decency to the owners. They’ll try and explain themselves on this review but if you want to explain call me personally and apologize. I didn’t trust you guys at all after lying to me. They said they prioritize big dogs than cats. So every dog that got brought in after Monday got priority over my cat when I was “second” in line all week? Almost a week to cremate a 3lb cat is ridiculous. If you were behind on cremations you need to disclose that to the owners. I was ready to take her back on day two when you guys were still acting as if she was next. I will not be recommending the shelter to anyone anymore.

All the shelter staff and the volunteers are wonderful help. Everyone who comes in has a passion for these animals. The shelter is based off donations, and the amount that everyone contributes is amazing. Thank you all for what you do.

I've only been here twice, I think. I'd totally go over a lot to play with the animals, if the journey there was easier. It's close enough to walk to from my house, but the roads aren't very wheelchair friendly. But I still got to play with the kittens! I hope that little brown and white one got adopted. He was really cute and social. We did get a little friend from there, though! Love him to death.

Called them to come pick a stray cat up off my porch, I explained that the cat was laying in my porch where she had been all day and that I was out there with her. The woman just said that she would send someone as soon as they could. About 30 or so mins later some young guy shows up with an off putting demeanor and asked where the carrier for the cat was! I never heard of animal control making citizens do their job for them, nor have I ever heard of them thinking citizens can afford to buy a carrier just to send it off with a stray. I'm not doing your job for you. Some one will be bringing this cat your way soon as it belongs to the city not me. It's NOT my responsibility to care for this cat nor provide any carrier for the cat. It's Animal controls job to deal with it. Not doing your jobs is a great way to make your jobs obsolete. This place has never helped a single stray when myself or neighbors have called. They ALWAYS have an excuse. Expect those excuse to be under a microscope recorded and used to prove your incompetence. But then again that seems to be the going theme for shelbyville, just full of people that have no business in the positions they are in.

These people LOVE animals. They want to connect you with the right fit so both you and your new pet are happy. The community does a great job of supporting too. There are hiking trails to walk the dogs on. There are meet and greet areas for introducing your current pets to a new candidate, or for just hanging out and getting to know the new dog.

The shelter was super clean. The staff is amazingly caring and compassionate. Thank you for being so kind in my moment of grief. They were so compassionate when I took my beloved parrot for cremation.

I had to put my beloved kitty of 14 yrs to sleep. I took her to the Humane society to have her cremated. They where so kind and thoughtful.

They take really good care of the dogs and cats they have in there, and really nice people when we were there.
