Doctors and nurses are excellent! I had a biopsy, and then another surgery and inpatient stay. The rooms are clean and have individual temperature control. The food, however, gets no stars. While they are under construction it is really crap. Hope that changes soon, because otherwise, UC health Highlands Ranch gives amazing care.

My wife and I both have chronic health conditions and have been to the UCHealth ER multiple times, especially since it’s the only non-religious hospital available for someone who is pregnant. If I can, I usually go to the VA because with preexisting medical conditions nearly no doctor understands how toxic their ideas of disability are and how that presents in their care of us and the VA is usually better. However, each visit to this hospital has been frustrating with this last experience highlighting stark differences in care that left us deeply disappointed.

We were both admitted for COVID-19 and placed in separate rooms with separate doctors. My experience was markedly better—my doctor, a woman, was understanding, supportive, and validating of my medical history. My wife, however, had a very different experience with male doctors during her care:

1. During her ultrasound, the male doctors conducting it didn’t even acknowledge her, instead choosing to talk amongst themselves about the “state-of-the-art” machine.

2. She was ordered an X-ray and asked whether it was safe for the baby. Only after she asked and the technician investigated did they decide not to proceed—a decision she had to push for herself.

3. When she told them about her preexisting conditions they dismissed them numerous times and once in my presence said “so you’ve had a pretty breezy pregnancy” which was not what she said at all.

4. My discharge paperwork correctly stated I had COVID-19 and included a work note. Hers, however, labeled her illness as a “miscellaneous virus,” and the nurse refused to give her a work note, despite her similar condition.

Additionally, my wife reported kidney pain, and test results indicated she might have kidney stones. However, she was told everything was “normal.” This echoed a previous visit when her gallstones were dismissed as normal by a male doctor, despite female nurses expressing concern. When she followed up with a post-discharge doctor about the gallstones, she was told they were serious and should never have been dismissed in the first place.

The glaring difference in these encounters? Male doctors. For a university hospital system that claims to be innovative and forward-thinking, our experiences repeatedly demonstrate a troubling gender bias. My wife constantly leaves feeling like her concerns are dismissed or downplayed, while I, as a man, seem to receive better care for similar issues. This latest experience was proof that bias is alive and well in this institution.

What’s worse, trying to report these concerns feels futile, with no clear outcomes or accountability. For a system that prides itself on its standards, patients deserve better—especially those with preexisting conditions facing critical or sensitive health conditions like pregnancy.

Took my family there last night because my son had a pretty high fever, and my wife was not doing well at all. While they were checking my two-year-old out my wife fainted in front of them. They handled all of it flawlesslyEvery one of the staff from the top to the bottom were amazing. They were all kind, compassionate, and very hard-working. Could not ask for anything more.
I can’t tell you how appreciative I am for how well you took care of my family, Thank you so much.

I can’t say enough how great my experience was here. I had to have a minor surgery at the Ear,Nose and Throat office. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes. The staff were extremely nice, smiling and welcoming. Waited in the lobby for less than 5 minutes. Thank you all so much!

I was experiencing pain on Thanksgiving late afternoon while visiting friends; it was escalating to the point of being extreme and intolerable. Fortunately we had a nurse in the group who strongly advised "nearest ER," and 2 family members got me to UC Health Highlands Ranch Hospital. The staffing seemed light and it took some effort to get me inside, but given that they weren't busy and I was seen immediately this seemed understandable. Admitting, a nurse, a paramedic in training and the supervising doc started all the procedures. As a medically complex patient, I feel that every one listened and understood my concerns (unfortunately I have significant experience with ER's.) The necessary procedures and treatments were efficient and effective, and doctor who reviewed everything and released me also had a good understanding of my situation. I was home (30 miles away) within 4 hours. I would feel comfortable if I needed to be seen there again.

Best liver surgeon Dr. Glisner, she saves lives! She was so knowledgeable and I will never forget her! She is a real hero. So was her amazing team of surgeons! They are the best in Colorado. Favorite Nurse: Aniela was by far the most amazing nurse! Top notch and so attentive and just down right good at her job! She went above and beyond every single time! She was just the best nurse on the floor and we had a lot of nurses. Favorite Male Nurse: Dragon! He was amazing and very knowledgeable. He cared when the IV wasn't looking right and was quick to always make Jon comfortable. He was so respectful when we were sleeping and just so kind. You can really tell when a nurse truly cares about what they do. Thank you UC Health for saving Jon's life this week!!!! Thank you for the amazing staff and thank you for saving my person!!! Words cannot express our gratitude ?

Dr. Jon has a god complex, refuses to hear pts out and instead interrupts them. He said the internet is full of lies and when I asked him what he thinks is wrong he then said idk. Last time I checked I am not a manakin in a simulation, I have a life to go home to after appointments. Drove all the way from the springs hoping better care from this UCHealth but again am disturbed by the treatment. These people only care if it will make them money. I’ve never been impressed by a single doctor in UCHealth and refuse to return. I have already told friends and family to go to any other hospital as long as it isn’t UCHealth you can expect some bedside manner. They really just give anyone a degree nowadays.
