I must say anytime I suspect issues with my cats I bring them to Dr. Mortensen here at VCA Montclare on grand avenue. If I moved to Texas I would still bring my cats to this wonderful doctor. My cat pearl was sick and declining this facility squeezed me in to take a look at her and a couple days later she’s trying to eat vs not eating at all. After running her tests she sent e home with some medicine and I can tell she’s feeling better each day. Thank you Dr. Mortensen and staff you’re all rockstars and have a forever customer here.

There’s one good vet. Took them years to even get me in the warning system for vaccines (I asked multiple times and told them I’m dumb and I need reminders I wasn’t shy) and to top it off when I go in for my appointment the tech is incompetent and the vet is terrified because my dog is anxious. 30 minutes after my appointment they finally see me and tell me to go to MedVet which apparently doesn’t do same day surgery. So if you need surgery for an issue that threatens your dogs life- don’t bother with those two places. I suppose I’ll keep pushing his intestines back through his pelvic floor until someone can help with his hernia.

We took our dog to vca April 11, 2024 bc she was using the bathroom in the house. payed nearly 250$ in bloodwork and a special diabetes test. For them to come back in the waiting room and say good news she doesn’t have diabetes. Gave us antibiotics and on our way home. 2 weeks later symptoms still present but our dog stops eating and drinking water and so weak. Vca required another 105$ for a visit which we did not have they recommend we take her to animal welfare league which they took there own blood work and X-ray there (and we had to pay again) and tell us she has severe diabetes and this all could’ve been controlled if it was caught sooner. Our dog passed same day just 4 hrs later. So shame on vca for taking senior citizens money especially those who are low income! You lie about the test results and what’s actually wrong with our pets to consume more money. Our dog could’ve been with us a little while longer if your staff would’ve never lied about the results!

Went back today to get shot got the bill they charged me again for a exam it was just a shot asked why exam no doctor vet examined him she said assistant that gave shot that she did I asked what did you do I was with my dog,she said I checked his ears so for her to check his ears cost me 95 dollars. for a assistant to check my dogs ears never going back again horrible place!!!

I implore you to avoid this practice. My cat presented with prolonged malaise and decreased appetite and there was concern for a dental issue. I do not fault the team for the misdiagnosis as I know this is a part of medicine. However, I fault the team when they confirmed my cat did not have a dental problem and had no further recommendations for treatment. When I asked to see labs that they had not shared with me and i saw abnormalities that I am trained to read (in humans) and brought this up, I was told "if you would like antibiotics I can give you some. Would you like some?" There was no abdominal exam when my cat was under anesthesia for assessment. I took him to an urgent care where he was diagnosed with FIP, a deadly diagnosis if not treated. Thankfully, I received high quality care at the other location but if I did not seek a second opinion, my cat would have died. Shame on this team for their lack of thorough care. I hope this information saves someone else's pet.

Be careful when bringing your pets here. They will always try to get as much out of you as possible. They convinced me that I needed to run blood work AND X-rays in order to diagnose my dog. The X-rays gave them a clear answer as to what was wrong with my dog, which was terminal. There was no need for blood work but because they “already started blood work” they charged me hundreds of dollars for it. Please take any procedures one step at a time. Do not let them trick you into doing everything at once, you will pay for it.
