My move was supposed to happen on a Friday, a full 3 days before my lease ended. This was an in-city "truck move." The truck broke down and nobody ever showed up to perform the move. Zippy Shell did not have any contingency plan in place to locate another truck or find another solution. Now, I understand that there are some logistics involved here, but this is what I am paying for--if something happens, you as a company have to take responsibility and find a solution. Instead, I was told that they couldn't guarantee anything and that they might be able to reschedule for Monday. One person actually said "I wish there was something better that I could tell you," which isn't very helpful.

Now, the worst part was the treatment by customer service. I had to reschedule a number of things because of the delay, incurring a ton of additional costs. But nobody from Zippy Shell ever apologized, or said they were doing everything they could, or anything like that. They also repeatedly said they would call me with updates--I never received a single update. As I type this, it's a day after this happened, and they still can't even tell me that my move will happen on Monday (3 days after it was scheduled). No apologies, no mitigation, no assurances. I never got the feeling that anyone was on top of my problem, trying to resolve it, trying to explore every solution. It was just a big shrug of the shoulders.

So I do not recommend Zippy Shell on this basis alone. I'll also update this after (if?) my stuff gets moved to rate the actual container, shipping etc. part of the service. I'll also rate based on how they responded in terms of trying to mitigate my costs and keep my future business.

I had to give at least one star, but so far I would give zero.

This is LITERALLY THE WORST COMPANY YOU CAN BOOK FOR YOUR MOVE. I typed it in all caps so you can read that again and let it sink in. Book this company at your own risk and if you've used them before, you should consider filing a lawsuit. They have no regard for the contract you sign and most importantly your belongings. Everyone that works there is either a liar or has no clue about the company they work for so they just spread misinformation. You will never talk to two people in a row who will give you consistent information. I'm not even sure why the company is still running. They are fraudulent and will lie to you just so they can get your money. Then they will deliver your stuff whenever they want. It is also impossible to get in contact with anyone on the phone. They will hang up on you and leave you on hold for hours. They all deserve to be sued which is exactly what I am doing. Using this company will only cost you more money in the end. This is a 1 star review but in reality it is actually -100. I have never written a google review even when I have received bad service but this is beyond bad, it is outright disrespectful, fraudulent and deceitful. I hope everyone who has used them will sue them. Go on twitter and see for yourself what people's experiences are like.

WORST moving experience!! My girlfriend and I hired them for a long-distance move from PA to NY. The salesperson promised us that the shell will be delivered to our apartment and be unloaded from there, however, after they already charged us the second payment, they said they would have to do a “loose unload” where they unload the shell (while cutting open our lock that we put on the shell) and load it into a truck and then unload the truck again at our apartment. We hired Zippyshell to decrease the amount of unloads we do so our belongings do not break. Zippyshell gave us multiple excuses as to why they had to do the “loose unload” (which was not in the contract we signed) but they did not care. Also, we woke up at 7am to go to the warehouse in LI to unlock the shell for the movers. If that wasn’t frustrating enough, they took over a week to get us our COI correctly and delivered it on the morning of the move. And as a warning, the customer service department is absolutely useless and will tell you that they put an “urgent” request and still take time to get back to you. The company has been an absolute nightmare while moving and highly recommended that people look elsewhere for long-distance movers.

I booked a shell and movers for August 31 with Zippy Shell and signed a contract for that date. I received a call on August 25 telling me that there were no movers available until September 5, and that there was nothing they could do. This is obviously a HUGE problem on multiple levels----the agent who booked the move was obviously incompetent, customer service was unhelpful, and there was no communication until six days prior to the move about the problem.

Fortunately, I found another moving company who could move me on short notice, and cancelled with Zippy Shell. I will never, ever book with them again.

Never have I been so motivated to write a review for a company, but my experience with ZippyShell (more like TortoiseShell) has been a complete and utter disaster. Contracted them to help with our move from Chicago to New York, and they have been consistently deceptive and misleading. We paid extra to have our items expedited after being told that our items would be shipped beyond the date we had agreed on. Then after paying an extra $500, they still did not deliver our items on the date that was agreed upon. Has been one disaster after another. I filed a complaint with the BBB, and it’s no wonder why they have had over 80 complaints filed against them and have received an “F” rating — they aren’t even accredited with the BBB. Believe me when I say to stay away from this company. These other reviews are not a lie. There has to be a better option out there. Please don’t make the same mistake we did!

I wish I could leave 0 stars. Do NOT use this company. They were unprofessional, impossible to get in contact with, and made me tons of promises with the initial quote that WERE INCORRECT, which cost me ~$1K in additional fees over what I was quoted initially. I plan to bring this to court.

Important to note: Zippy shell is just the storage shell, they contract the movers on either end and the storage facility. So you have no way of knowing or screening, who is actually going to be handing your things.

I used Jay and Zippy Shell's service for a move this past weekend to put everything in storage and after dealing with Jay for about a week, talking almost every day, he was able to accommodate all of my needs, even putting a team together to help physically load and unload my things on a Saturday night for a Sunday move. I can rest assure that my items are in good hands as I look for a new apartment and recommend their services highly.

I had my pick-up and pack service yesterday and went great. Mike W, Sam C, and Rameek C where so awesome. I was worried it wouldn’t all fit but watching Mike play “Tetris” will it all was impressive. Even had extra space. They arrived on time and had everything packed and loaded in 3.5 hours. I’ll update the review after drop off.
